No, they used to piss down the barrel to flush the salts out. Windex is fine, but a better way is a mix of 1 part Ballistol and 9 parts water. Stir it up, pour it down the barrel with a funnel, let it dry. The Ballistol will leave a film of protection on the rifling.

ok im a bit late but...nice Izhevsk.. I got me 2 of them but the longer version ;) M91/30.. shoot them at lease twice a month..

For cleaning I use an old recipe of ballistol and water (10% ballistol and 90% water)
the water neutralizes the corrosive salts and the oil keeps anything else from rusting.
ballistol will also remove some of the carbon and copper fouling.
follow up with some hoppes and then a bit of CLP for protection
