My Father-in-law sent my wife some 25 round mags the other day for her M&P. Wife called police non-emergency number to find out if they were legal in VA (I was at work). The desk Sgt. didn't know and asked a supervisor who also didn't know and they had to look it up. The mag sticks out of the magazine well about 10 inches. Just don't look or feel right.

Lawyers are paid to understand the law, LEOs are to enforce it.

Typically LEOs get a few weeks of classroom training to understand the law, but in no way do,the know the law.

But, that said, avoiding headaches might be had by asking the LEOs in the jurisdiction you plan to do something, what the laws are with respect to that something.

I typically read the laws myself, but I have asked LEOs what rheir opinion is legal interpretations before, after all, they might have to make that interpretation some day, and maybe with me!

What I don't understand is how can you enforce the laws if you don't know what the laws are?

^^^ I am with you there. The problem is that even lawyers cannot all the laws in all the fields that must be enforced, and if we hired lawyers, the bill might be high.

They enforce it under a general awareness and simply asking what is reasonable, and through experience.

It also means ere are many instances where the police may be as wrong as anyone else.
