Paying a fine or getting some slap on the wrist misdemeanor for civil disobedience is one thing, but a felony conviction that takes away the very thing I'm trying to protect doesn't seem to be the best course of action.

Not a good idea. Profoundly BAD idea, in fact. The analogy will certainly be drawn to shouting "fire" in a crowded theater. And it will probably alienate some people who have not yet joined the ranks of the gun-grabbers.

A better idea, IMO, would be to do the same march with REPLICA RIFLES or toy guns (ones that are realistic enough to scare at least the hoplophobes). Then just be damned sure nobody "brandishes" even a toy gun. Seems to me that would drive the anti-gun folks just as crazy and accomplish pretty much the same purpose; with the added benefit of putting the GUN-GRABBERS in the position that whatever they do will look bad on them. You could probably come a lot closer to getting an impressive number of participants, too.

I think anyone doing this is an idiot. DC in governed by Congress, it is not a state and people there do not have the rights they have in states.

Marching on state capitals I have no problem with. I have done that several times.

I also agree with 9mmjhp and I wouldn't go near DC on the 4th of July just because of the traffic.

That is amazing. I wish them the best of luck, but foresee it becoming a CF. They are going to at best get arrested, and have more of their rights removed. At worst it is going to be bloody, and there will be more fodder for the gun grabbers about how stupid we as pro gun people are.

They seem to forget the national guard will probably be called into this, and marshal law may come into effect. When that happens they are in a world of S***.

The government doesn't like so many armed people at one time in one place thinking the same way, look at what happend to David Koresh in Waco. Mark my words no good will ever come of this!

Doesn't history tell us that there is at least a plausible theory that the first shots fired at Lexington & in Boston were fired by His Majesty's Regulars? Those who do not learn from history . . .

There are better ways of making the point that do not give the grabbers any more ammo.

I don't think they will declare martial law even if they did call out the guard. But I do think they'll probably arrest everybody and bend over backwards to portray all gun owners as dangerous nuts and scofflaws.

To me, it is probable that the Battle of Lexington (more a massacre than a battle) was started by a British officer. The Americans were already walking away from the Common. Paul Revere and at least one other witness said that after the first shot a puff of white smoke hung over part of the Redcoat line. But although depositions were taken from nearly everybody who was there, nobody would swear to knowing exactly where that first shot came from.

This is the perfect opportunity for the government to plant a nutcase in the crowd.

After a well televised bloody mess, there will be no stopping the confiscation of guns.

Is this for real or is it just another ploy by the government to make us gun owners look bad so they can take our guns from us? We all now it would not be the first time. :tinfoil:

Gun march or not, you wouldn't find me near DC on the 4th of July. That place is nuts!

Interesting counter.
+1

If you want to perform civil disobedience, you must actually do something illegal. You can't do it with water guns or replicas. The fact that it's a felony merely underscores the severity of the transgression of the 2nd Amendment. It will be interesting to watch.

A different, but related question is the wisdom of civil disobedience in this area as a means to achieve the desired result. I won't be participating because I'm not certain it will be effective in this specific case. However, similar civil disobedience, which was proclaimed by many sheriffs and even a few states, about not enforcing and in some cases stopping the Feds from enforcing new gun laws, I think would be very effective.
