I don't understand how you can continue to say it is firearm registration if no information about the actual firearm is given or recorded. I would however agree that it could lead to a list of potential owners, and be considered owner registration.

If you must participate than the government knows exactly how many you have. If they wanted to confiscate the firearms, they'd just have to collect the number you own. Who cares if they have the exact serial numbers when they know you have 7 firearms (19 purchases and 12 sales) and tried only turning in 3. Besides the restriction as proposed that prohibits them collecting the firearm details will be softened over time as they want to control certain styles of firearms (e.g. assault weapons).

Willingly? No. Given no other choice if you want the item/exercise your unalienable rights? Yes. I would love to not need a CC permit to CC, just like OC in VA. I would love to not need a BC at an FFL or deal with the mess that is the NFA, but that is the law. Are you seriously suggesting that people break the NFA simply because it is registration?

If not, what's the point? I comply with a multitude of laws that I think are silly and infringe on my unalienable rights. The options are really 1. comply and work to remove those restrictions (not add to them) 2. don't participate (e.g. don't own firearms) 3. shoot the bastards. 2 & 3 really aren't options IMHO, so that leaves 1. If I were king for a day though...
