The only change that needs to be made to existing laws is better enforcement.

Just a point of order.

Anyone may join and in theory join multiple times. Joining does not require gun ownership, nor truthfulness. Just because someone claims to be a gun owner, a NRA member, a patriot, pro-liberty, or anything else, does not make it true. In politics, as in war, there is a great amount of deception...

Over 5000 members here and only 42 responses,,, I sincerely hope this isn't indicative of how we contact our reps and fight against the Lefts gun grabbing treason or we are screwed.

NO UBC.....It will ultimately become a national/federal data base that will be easily over reached by the powers that be.

For criminals, yes. For free law-abiding citizens, no.

I voted no as well although I do support UBC's for all people in public office so we can be sure we don't add to the already swollen ranks of polecats and backbiters.

I don't support UBC as desired by the left. The maximum burden I could see that is acceptable to me is a BC required for private sales, since FFL sales already require a BC. It would go something like this-

1. Buyer/seller agree on price and meet up at an FFL that has access to NICS.
2. Buyer pays FFL max fee of $2 for the FFL to run buyers BC.
3. FFL gets Go/No Go for sale and exchange proceeds depending on BC.
4. No details of sale are transmitted or required.

Of course, I realize that what is really wanted by the left is de-facto registration, so this solution is basically a fairy tale.

FFLs would probably not go for that. Why would they spend their time on something like that for $2?

That was the charge listed to call in my BC when I bought my Kahr from Dark Sun at the last gun show.

During an established process I can almost see that happening (gun show), but even at a gun shop it's going to be tough to convince FFLs to pony up the staff to facilitate that transaction for $2 (some might, in the hopes that the increased traffic would result in sales of other things, kind of like why grocery stores have pharmacies). Less likely for someone that works out of their home. Even if it only takes 15 minutes, that's $8 an hour of revenue. Most people would value their time higher than that.

No UBC at anytime. Period.....

You bought the gun from them so the Federal Check as free; it's part of the cost of doing business for a dealer. VA charges a $2 fee for the states redundant BC that the dealer passed on to you. No FFL is going to perform the work and hang on the paperwork for 20 years for $2. Many places in NOVA charge nearly $50 + $2 + tax for what you described. There's nothing stopping a private seller from going through a FFL for a BC today, just no law requiring it in VA.

What you described will for all intents and purposes end all private sales. There simply won't be anyone willing to perform the BC.

Even if a dealer will do it, it creates a record that the purchaser had a check run on him; and raise the presumption (at least possibly) that he/she bought a gun. Not good, in my book. Also, it puts the mechanism in the hand of the keeper of the database to limit access to firearms by taxing and/or increasing the cost and/or limiting availability of access to that database. They might also implement a registration scheme by the simple expedient of conditioning access for a BC to submission of info on the purchaser, seller, and firearm. This I see as a very short step from registration and prohibition.

And this is not the paranoia that BHO says it is. The gun-grabbers have already stated they won't be satisfied with anything less than prohibition and confiscation.

When I sell a firearm to someone that I don't know is vetted (life long friend, my brother, etc.) I always go through and FFL. I have paid as much as $37 and it's worth every penny knowing I'm not arming a violent felon. besides that, work it into the deal or tell the buyer they are paying for it... it's not a big deal.

Like I said, my whole problem is the government is trying to create a de facto registry with these processes. It's not about safety. It's about control. An unarmed people can be easily controlled.

How would universal background checks have stopped Newtown? If it doesn't fix the problem, then it is just a bunch of folks lying to themselves... or others to further an agenda.

It is kind of Ironic that VGOF has 5,707 members on the books and have only had 57 members participate in the poll so far. I would like to thank all that have participated so far, but was really hoping for a better turn out then this.

Just being curious; I looked at how many of our 5707 members had 0 posts and there are 86.75 pages totaling 2169 members that have 0 posts with the majority of them have joined in the last 6 months. I would like to ask those that have not posted yet to at least drop by the New Members Report Here and say hello and participate in the discussions.

I know that there has been many call to actions by the VCDL and GOA lately and I hope that you have participated by writing you Senators or Congressmen, and I know that it may sound like a broken record sometimes with all the posts, (I am so tired myself of getting the same form letter from Kaine, Warner, and Connolly, but I still send them out to them) but we need to keep the pressure up. I am not holding my breath but maybe we can get them to understand that what they are trying to pass as legislation will not stop the criminals but only make it worse for Law Abiding folks and erode/remove our 2nd Amendment rights. Once our 2nd Amendment rights are weakened or completely removed then our right to speak our mind as I am now will also go away.

Unfortunately the adage "10% of the people do 90% of the work" comes to mind. It's been true of any organization/club etc. I've ever belonged to. And it seems the percentage of "participation" is ever shrinking.
