I am all for making it easier to come here. I could even be open minded about finding a way to let some of the people who were brought here as children stay here (not become citizens immediately) just be permitted to stay here and work. IMO becoming a citizen should require some work so that we are certain you have something invested in being part of the country, not just work here and send $$ back. I could even go so far as to say if you are here and have done nothing other than be here illegally, then I could see a way to pay a penalty (a fine of some substance), and then be granted legality--again not citizenship--just legality.

At the same time though you have to make it easier for people to come here and work, while reducing the incentives to go on the public dole. Say you come here legally (or pay the fine) you are not permitted any sort of public help beyond WIC (WIC gives kids milk, carrots, and formula--it is very effective, you can't buy junk food with it, and has very little waste) for 5 years. You come here, you choose to work, not leech off the system my family has worked so hard to pay for. I think that is merciful, and fair.

Now as for our representative. He should be ashamed of himself. It is one thing to find oneself in a bad situation (being in a country illegally), it is another thing to flaunt it. Which he was a part of. GRRRRR!

Doesn't the governor have some power or say-so over our two state Senators? Are there punitive actions he could take?

One other thing... Persons who arrive in OUR COUNTRY who have come through the proper channels I welcome you, UNLESS YOUR CHINESE HAHA.... I wrote Warner and told him how I felt about his shenanigans. I encourage you to do the same. Remind him he is up for election and we are watching.

I agree with Vaschooter on all points. My very first though was that is depriving a true citizen of a seat. Not that I would want it! But that is the first violation. Then, to bring an illegal into a federal government building has to be illegal. I have to call ahead a few days to be sure I will be allowed in for business.

Since we are clarifying.

I have friends and family of all races, creeds, and religions. I love all of them, I hate not one particular group. I have been on the receiving end of hate, and hate violence due to my race.

I however do not have time and do not truck with those that lie, cheat, and steal.
I don't like those people who break laws I believe in and flaunt it, who take money from the government, and then turn around and comment on how much they hate our country. I grew up on base all my child hood, I stood and said the pledge of allegiance with my hand over my heart every school day, and I was taught about the good things this country has done, and why my mom and dad were out there protecting it. We had bomb drills once a month at least where we had to get under our desks, we learned what to do, who to look for while we were on base if something were to happen. (note: I lived on base while the iron curtain was up, and witnessed it collapsing 1989, and the entire base celebrated)

I love you all, every last mf'er so be nice or I will have to use my mama voice. =)

Report them to whom?

I once contacted ICE about a restaurateur who was using illegals as kitchen help and warehousing a dozen or more of them sleeping on the floor in a single hotel room. I was told "the agency didn't pursue such complaints".

Reporting illegals will just result in the company providing ICE and/or labor dept. with a list of someones names and SSN's.

Aren't there laws already on the books to enforce against business owners who knowingly hire illegals? I guess you're right though...there will be false SS#'s to take the heat off the company.

Simply making e-verify mandatory and severely punishing those who don't use it would make 90% of this mess go away.
