Just wait until you see what that's gonna cost you now...

(If I was a rich man, I'd get a RC Cola and a Moon Pie)

Meh. The gougers dont bother me. It's the people paying the prices that bother me. What can ya do?
Just like shopping at Dick's and Cheaper Than Dirt - people will continue give them business even after they have shown their colors.

It's not like the housing market boom driving up tax assessments.

How about if us mods put the $ sign on the ads, then everybody clicked on the ads each time they logged on giving the gowjers a boatload of views and no bites?! :first:

Why not just let the regular folks make their comments instead of telling them to play nice when someone offers the $1000 "National Match" custom lower receiver? We routinely disagree with each other on here in other posts, why should buying and selling be different? I wouldn't mind it a bit if someone comes on here trying to sell P-mags or used GI magazines for $50 a piece, I also wouldn't be offended if someone else pointed out that they might be overpriced.

Yep, that's the flip side of it. Dad used to say, "There's two sides to every coin". The way things are, these prices just might be cheap next week... :coffee: FiremanBob suggested a wager...

Mind flayer just go into those posts and say the real value of what they're selling and their little gouging market will dry up when potential buyers know the value of said item and know they'd be taken if they bought it.

Fair game since the mods won't do anything!

Interesting point, but it's hard to pass on all the commissions we're making :dunno:

Agreed. That's what gunbroker and arf.com are for. I would never gouge somebody on here :)

I like the compared views of a "Country Store", and they're not just in WVA!

There was an article in a survival magazine that states, "...do not move to an area, and just start including yourself into the community, you need to feel your way through it, and find the social norms that are acceptable, and behaviors that are rewarded."

I paid CLOSE attention to that, but again. I don't care if someone makes one post hawkin' a $300 AK for $Eleventy Billion Quazillion dollars. I ain't buying, and I'd laugh at a regular who bought it, but I would still be polite... and wanna shoot it. HAHAHAH

I am a big fan of capitalism. I believe in a free and open market. I believe in supply and demand.

On that note, I wish I had bought a machine gun in 86 from a price gouger.

But here today, I would just like an ignore button so I can ignore permanently the few people.

Never ignore anyone.

A stopped clock is still correct twice a day. Even those I fight tooth, and nail with, I would rather hear from them, than just be fed a steady diet of "yes".

and if someone is gouging? They're doing it to someone else, not me, hopefully not you. Someone else.

Everybody knows everybody, n when these market mavens come busting up in here you guys give 'em the stink eye.

Reminds me of those country stores in WVA where you push the door open and step inside, and everybody stops talking and watches you.

"Mmmm hmmm, I'll just be getting my Pepsicocola and Nabs and be movin' along. You fellers have a nice day."

Hahahah! You should see the looks I get when I go into those places and try to order a coffee with a New England accent.

Palladin wrote:Doesn't smell like gouging to me, If you don't want it, don't buy it.

Let the market forces find the balance. See Walter E. Williams @townhall for an economics lesson, etc.

It's like a reverse auction, if nobody will meet the reserve, watch the price fall 'til somebody will. Or the seller just holds onto the goods.

+1

Always a cry for reasonable regulation simply because someone doesn't like what another person is doing. Liberty isn't always easy, nor is it always pleasant. I appreciate the fact that Rick lets us have such freedom on his forum, it makes for an interesting place. However, that also means I have to put up with people with whom I disagree with or are annoying me. As long as their actions are ethical, I'm all for putting up with it and avoiding necessary regulation.

FYI, it's not unethical to ask for what I or you consider a ridiculous price...after all they're asking and I'm ignoring. No one is forcing me to buy it or even bother with their add. If someone bites and buys a stripped lower for $800, that's their business. It doesn't make sense to me, but they must have their reasons. On occasion I've paid a high price, but I've always done so willingly (except taxes), so in every case I valued the item much more than I valued the cash.

This can not be understated! The future is uncertain, that always drives prices. IF a real, grandfathered ban like the 86' were to occur in the near future for semi-auto AR15s, etc, $800 for a stripped lower is a steal!

Seems to me that there are two issues here:

- Price gouging by folks in the WTS section
- People joining VGOF with the sole intent of posting in the WTS without contributing to other sections in the forum.

The price gouging will fix itself via the free market system.

As far as "dead-weight membership" goes, I've seen other forums where you can become a member and post on the forums, but in order to post in the Marketplace section, you need to have financially contributed.
