CLP is break-free. Break-Free CLP is what the military uses and is also available on the civilian market. I can't understand how anyone could say not to use CLP but break-free is ok.

Well, guess I'm behind the times. I use butch's bore shine, hoppes, and regular old gun oil.

I'll stick with Dove or Dial, thank you very much. I certainly dont want to break anything free, especially in the shower before work. That would not be the start of a good day...

I was combat arms around 30 years ago and we did take our M-16s in the shower. Was a great way to break up the crud and get the hidden parts clean in the lower receiver. The only hard part then was getting everything dry which was mainly a drip dry thing and using patches on your cleaning rod. Hot water helped alot. Worked like a charm. Then you applied LSA. You guys still use that?

LSA, I haven't heard that for years. There was another one also, they were used in different climates. CLP replaced both of them.

We had gallons of LSA for the M-60s. One of the only weapons I never truly cared for other than the .45 grease gun. Glad they come up with the SAW. I carried a small bottle of LSA in my helmet headband.

If you've ever shot a 60 you will truly appreciate the SAW. You had to baby them like whiny women, constantly dump LSA in the receiver, and change the barrel almost every other belt of ammo. Those things get nasty when they start cooking off rounds. I once had an assistant gunner that pulled one in the foxhole with us trying to break the belt off. Lucky I had a change of drawers with me.

damn, sounds like those things were a hot freakin' mess. Im glad we dont have to deal with that annoyance. That thing would get someone killed just trying to maintain it in combat. Thank god for the SAW.
I would like to see the M16 replaced by the AK in all honesty. I like the 16, but the AK is just less trouble.

Some people like the 60s, but I thought they were a real pain. I agree on the AK, however the newer versions of the M-16s are going to chrome lined chambers and bores like the AK, which will help a great deal. Having said that the AK is IMO hands down the most popular and prolific military rifle on the planet.

Here's an excerpt from the PT145 manual supplied by Taurus. It has a security system so the pistol can be locked with a key on the slide. Here are two warnings at the end of the section:
