gun shop frenzy
Re: gun shop frenzy
I heard on the news that the largest distributor of .556 ammo in the country had 3 1/2 years of normal sales in 3 days.

Re: gun shop frenzy
With the gun show in Chantilly this weekend I wonder what they they will have and the prices.

With most of the larger vendors having retail stores, and been to one or two shows since the frenzy began expect empty tables... tho I hear revolvers are still in good supply.zykur wrote:With the gun show in Chantilly this weekend I wonder what they they will have and the prices.
Also there should be plenty of beef jerky, and the a**hole in the corner with the stun guns will still be zapping away all day.
Rifles are presently selling for 2-3x previous pricing, as the shortage gets shorter, expect that will go up.

Obviously its worth it to them. I know a lot of people who don't own any ARs going out and buying several. It's crazy if you already own several (the marginal utility of another unit is small), but if you had no AR and might never be able to get one, $2000-$3000 is probably worth it if you can swing it. The nice ARs are already showing asking prices north of that, but we'll see what actually sells. Below $2000 and its basically gone.MNMGoneShooting wrote:I hear ya! My P556 Swat that I bought for a bloated price several months ago is selling nearly double that on GunsAmerica. Better than a 401K!donut wrote:I'm just watching gunbroker off and on and searching "WASR" and "Bushmaster" people are willing to shell out some serious cash. It's amazing to watch the realtime demand drive these things.

Brownell's sold 3 1/2 years worth of high-cap AR mags in 3 days. Not sure how much ammo they sold, but I'm sure it was a record too.marked8 wrote:I heard on the news that the largest distributor of .556 ammo in the country had 3 1/2 years of normal sales in 3 days.

While you're there you can probably pick up your wife/girlfriend a necklace and a piece of crap purse too.jdonovan wrote:With most of the larger vendors having retail stores, and been to one or two shows since the frenzy began expect empty tables... tho I hear revolvers are still in good supply.zykur wrote:With the gun show in Chantilly this weekend I wonder what they they will have and the prices.

I had ordered a S&W M&P 15 on the 17th. I am expecting an e-mail any day saying it has been cancelled because they can get double what I paid for it.

I'm all for prices rationing scarce resources, but you can't do that by breaking existing contracts. If you've agreed to an exact price, they should honor it. Depending the details of what "order" means, you might have a case for small claims court if they don't honor that contract.marked8 wrote:I had ordered a S&W M&P 15 on the 17th. Places always have ways around that:
(1) If an item's correct price is lower than our stated price, we will charge the lower amount and ship you the item; or (2) if an item's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will, at our discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping or cancel your order and notify you of such cancellation. We apologize for any inconvenience.

That's why I said it depends on what exactly is meant by "order." If your contract permits them to change it, then you're SOL.marked8 wrote:gunderwood wrote:I'm all for prices rationing scarce resources, but you can't do that by breaking existing contracts. I plan on picking up a 1911 at the Nation's gunshow, likely a Sig Fastback nitron with rosewood grips. 1911s should still be available and most are no high-cap assualt weapon wannabees! I'm going as soon as they open on Friday because I think it will be a fricking zoo on Saturday. I hope Friday night will *only* be hectic...!
Re: gun shop frenzy
Everyone I'm talking to is saying "I'm going friday so I can get all the stuff before it sells out, and it will be less of a zoo than Saturday"
I think Friday might turn out to be the bigger zoo day.

Re: gun shop frenzy
Based on what I saw at the last gun show there when the only new threat was the re-election of our esteemed POTUS....that place is going to have 1K people in line waiting for the doors to open. There were at least 300-400 waiting last time.jdonovan wrote:Everyone I'm talking to is saying "I'm going friday so I can get all the stuff before it sells out, and it will be less of a zoo than Saturday"

I would love to go pick up some more ammo...but I do not even want to deal with the cluster that is going to be. Good luck to those of you that go. Also, I am sure there will also be plenty of old uniforms, swords, knives, and ACU purses to be purchased.

Re: gun shop frenzy
I wonder if there will be anything I can afford at the Chantilly show this weekend? I suspect prices are going to be jacked substantially.

Re: gun shop frenzy
Damn. Still, it is a statistical near-certainty that it will be harder to get there on a Friday than on Saturday for most working stiffs. But I work only 15-20 minutes away and will be there early and make a beeline to the place (I've got the layout pretty much memorized as it changes very little) that was selling one last time. I think I will have 3-4 options for getting one. Worst case is I ask a LGS to order one for me. Again, 1911s are not ARs and are plentiful.
Re: gun shop frenzy
I'm always looking at the wrong time...
I've been wanting to pick up a Marlin model 60 for a few months now, but waited too long. Do dealers have 22's in stock?
