They weren't. You could buy, and sell, just like today, but the friggin' price was AWFUL!
I remember a friend buying a Glock 27, and paying $50 for High-Cap Mags. Spent $150 to make his weapon "hot"...
Ruger Mini-14 mags were running $30 a pop, but AR mags for USGI were about $20-25. Uzi mags? Fuggedaboutit. $100 a pop. That's why Grease Gun Mags became so hot as a mag systems. $5-$10 a pop.
And whomever said it? CORRECT! BUY MAGS! NOT AMMO! You can RELOAD! You cannot "REMAG"!

I was thinking about that.airbornepirate wrote: Understandable...but even if you can't shoot it often because of ammo costs, I bet it does better than any 401k will over the next year at least. That and if/when a ban get put in place you wont even have the option of purchasing one for a price close to what they are now if at all.
I have the opportunity to get a Knight SR-15 (new) for $2300. It was going for about $1900 six months ago.

I'm waiting until a Century WASR gets to the same price range as a Springfield M1A. It's better than trading oil!

Thanks! and that was me that said buy mags.... I dont have a AR but I have a good amount of mags and just bought a good amount of mags for my other evil weapons. Sadly though I will have to buy ammo. I dont have room (nor would household6 be ok with setting up a reloading station in the living room or bedroom) for it.

Re: WOW! Auction Sites Hit Hard
The prices on auction sites right now are incredible. I wasn't buying guns when the last AWB went into effect in '94, but I'm still surprised at what I'm seeing. Just before the November election, I had a feeling that Obama was going to go for broke if he were to win a second term and have his Liberal worshipers in the Senate go after so-called "assault weapons" with another ban. So, I purchased a large number of AR lowers, pmags, and BCGs. After seeing the prices on Gunbroker and the lack of inventory of ARs at every LGS I've been too, I'm feeling like an effin' genius. Just wishing I'd bought a Mega Maten lower before they sold out pretty much everywhere.
