There's some good BBQ joints, but most are different than your use to in Texas. This is pulled pork with vinegar based sauce territory. It's all good though.

I think I can handle some pulled pork with vinegar sauce, I have family in Sumter, SC and they like to get whole pigs, BBQ them and them dump the sauce on while you pick from the grille....good eatin'!

Awesome! I love the free and public range idea since Austin, TX is insane concerning gun ranges. The city will not authorize any new ranges for many years now. It's a battle between the left, right and teaparty here...too many politicians for me.

I have one range relatively close to me that's outdoor and reasonable priced. The other range that's reasonable close is indoor, $15 an hour, poorly ventilated and small. The staff is great, but there is always a long wait.

Wanted to bump this up. My wife received a report date of April 30th, so we are going to be leaving a little before that. It's gonna be about a month or so before we get settled and find a rental house.

I am wondering about the laws relative to traveling through Arkansas, Tennessee to VA. I will have all of my weapons in locked cases and I will have the ammo in a locked box as well. Are there any tips or kernels of knowledge that you guys are aware of that I am not?

Convenient to Langley with good schools are Poquoson and the south part of York County. Williamsburg is about 30 minutes in light traffic, Glouster Point is about the same distance and has a toll bridge. Light traffic is not guaranteed between either Glouster or Williamsburg, I-64 can get pretty backed up as well as Hwy 17. I work at Langley and plenty of people commute from Williamsburg and points north as well as Glouster and even Matthews County. I never really wanted to fight the traffic and ended up in south York County in the Tabb area.

The advantage of being north of Williamsburg or up in Glouster is more land for the same money. The city of Williamsburg is pretty expensive, but the surrounding county is not bad. Northern York County is also cheaper with larger lots.

Getting a permit is pretty straight forward in VA, you need proof of firearms training and a clean record. Unlike Texas you can open or conceal carry (with permit) in most public areas except schools and courthouses.

If anyone can give me some advise on what I need to get done. We will be staying on Langley until we get a rental home. I called the base police and asked them about firearms on base and they said we would have to be escorted to the armory and they would be stored there until we find a place. I really don't like that idea, so I would like to find a place that I can store them. Any ideas?

Made it to VA in one piece! Drive was 4 days and a blast and we are now in a rental house. Already been checking out some of the BBQ joints and other places that you guys have mentioned in my thread...life is good! I am in Newport News BTW
