The only country in all human history who paid its debt was Romania. We had a shoe-repairer (no joke) as president, what to expect? We shot him, anyway...
The US briefly did this during Jacksons presidency. It never happened again.

Can you tell us more about the man you're speaking of?

As for SS, as Dormin and jdonovan said the payroll tax cut is foolish because it further endagered SS for...not much money back to workers really. Seemed pointless.

I've really been rethinking the role of programs like SS since the election, and while I guess since SS is at least funded (kind of), I've kind of had to question the motive of it all.

Saw a report the US birthrate is down to all new lows, I wonder if theres a correlation between birth rates and government programs? I mean, the traditional practical reason to even have kids is for them to take care of you when you're old...if the state is willing to do it, why even bother with the resource intensive project known as parenthood?

I dunno, maybe some of you guys rubbed off on me, is SS a sinister plot to replace traditional family roles with Uncle Sam? Starting to wonder on this one. Its not like piles of old people were droppling like flies before FDR came along.

"We had a shoe-repairer (no joke) as president, what to expect? We shot him, anyway..."- Kelu.

That made me snort a beer out m'nose!

Any politician who actually represents the people, and does the right thing, shakes the establishment, he's either "culled", or "put into his place".

Cincinatus rolls in his Roman grave.

A financial analyst I like sometimes to read and also knows a lot of history says:
"There is ABSOLUTELY no government that has not defaulted upon its debt except Romania during the 1980s."
http://www.martinarmstrong.org/files/Ou ... 3-2011.pdf
and
"Going back to 6000BC, I could find no government that ever paid its debts except one, Romania in 1980 at the dire cost of massive deflation."
http://www.martinarmstrong.org/files/Th ... 2-2011.pdf
Which is true, we have exported for many years under production cost, starving our population, to repay the external debt.
The man who have done this:

Before WWII, Romania was very well developed. Wheat price was settled there. We had first modern oil refinery. And many others. Bucharest was known as "Little Paris".
Then communists came, and first people did not saw the danger, and then were afraid to fight them. Story over. Lights out.
