A schoolbus in Boston was evacuated a few months ago, not because of a bomb threat or kid with a weapon but because.....a kid had spotted a peanut on the floor of the bus.
Serious business.

The peanut butter allergy is pretty serious...so I can understand that.
That aside, being a mom of four, and having been under pre-natal care 4X I will tell you that the list of restrictions they put on a woman who is expecting is crazy. With my first they wanted me to stop eating chocolate and all soda because it had caffine (oh the horrors)......and I tried to be a good patient (how happy of a person I was we won't go into). By the fourth child I had learned better, those things that really matter (alcohol and contact sports) I avoid when pregnant. However outside of Mikes hards, I eat whatever I darn well please. My children are robust, never ever sick, and strong.
If you are a mommy or a daddy on here I beg of you do not limit fat in your childs diet....Your childs brain is the fastest thing growing right now, what is brain matter made out of.....fatty acids. So please please please, feed your children nice eggs, mayo, olive oil, and as long as no allergies are present peanut butter. Now if you want to limit some sugar, that would be wise, but I don't want the states hands anywhere near my kids lunch.

Saw this one coming for this topic - at least business owners both big and small are taking a stance and calling them out. Looks like the Bloomster overstepped some boundaries and forgot his role in how a REAL Government should work.

I think they would be better off banning HFC and other chemically & genetically modified sweeteners and foods. I agree with Bloomy on his want to help get rid of the crap but we should deal with what bad before banning things like large portions and soda all together.

A granola munching vegan Libertarian survivalist (don't ask) I know told me alot about HFC and on a whim I took his advice and cut it out of my diet 100% (not easy), I lost 7lbs in about two months while not changing my eating habits otherwise or exercising more from my current activity level of corpse.
It was an easy way to slim down a bit.

While we are all focused on the individual item being banned,we are distracted from the real attack. I t's not the soda or the size, or the health issue. If they were really concerned about the peoples health, don't you think there are alot more unhealthy legal things they could attack. Same with guns and crime. They don't give a damn how many idiots kill each other, they don't give a damn about crime. They know its always been with us and always will be. It's your freedoms they are chipping away at. Its your freedoms they don't want you to have. They have to be taken away slowly until they are gone. Then they will be able to control the populace It's freedom they hate, and freedom they want to do away with. This other junk is just a smoke screen.

So how do you know that the 7 pounds you lost was a result of not consuming the HFCS rather than just not consuming the calories that would have been in the food that contained that HFCS? If you say you consumed the same calories, what in the world did you substitute? (I really need to know that)
My information is that all the authoritative studies come down the same way: Fructose is fructose. Fructose, by the way, is "fruit sugar". Comes from honey, tree and vine fruits, flowers, berries, and most root vegetables. You can also get it from treating corn sugar with enzymes to concentrate the fructose. That's where that ominous acronym the food Nazis scare the sheeple with comes from: "HFC" or "HFCS" Stands for High Fructose Corn Sweentener".
By the way, treating grain-based beverages with enzymes to enhance their desireable qualities is not a new and dangerous practice. Brewers have been doing it since prehistory. The starches extracted from grains were converted BY ENZYMES to sugars which were then fermented to make every drop of beer you ever drank. Of course, when you get right down to it, maybe BEER caused an ancient "obesity epidemic". Can you imagine a world where there waS NO SUCH THING AS A "BEER GUT"? do you even want to?
Personally I think those food Nazis are so disapproving of everything because their overtight anuses keep them constipated.

Dormin, I said I did not change my eating habits. If I was hungry I still ate a comparable amount/type of food, just food without HFC.
So if I wanted a sandwich it was with HFC free bread instead of bread with HFC etc.
My admittedly foggy memory of organic chemistry recalls while all sugars generally work the same way, HFCS is added (i.e. hidden) sugar which then burdens your endocrine system further because its in addition to the other sugars in food.
Plus diabetes really freaks me out, so I avoid sugar whenever possible as very little is necessary for life.

I was wondering how you managed to find non-HFCS-sweetened sweets like cake, , etc. So you're saying you just don't eat sweets? If that's true, I'd think your HFCS intake was pretty insubstantial anyway. Hell; you probably lost that 7 pounds from all that running around trying to find SOMETHING, SOMEWHERE that you could eat.
HFCS is just corn sugar (syrup) with higher than normal levels of fructose; which is just fruit sugar. To get to a certain perceived sweetness you have to use a certain amount of sugar. It's all about having a high enough percentage of sugar to get to the sweetness level you need without having added too much water. Before HFCS, you couldn't do that with corn syrup in a lot of products, including soda. That stuff about "hidden sugars" seems to me to be pretty much just a hocus-pocus term with no real meaning designed to scare the sheeple. When it comes to most commercial products, there is certainly added sugar; some of it from corn and some of it not - and NONE of it is "hidden". But whether it was added or occurs naturally does not, as I understand it, make any difference as to whther it is HFCS or some other source of sucrose.

I do sometimes eat sweets, but my wifes makes them from scratch and uses splenda which doesnt really get metabolized. I dont have much of a sweet tooth (I'm partial to really dark bitter chocolate, which isnt very sweet), but I wont eat mass commercially prepared sweets/desserts; theyre mostly preservatives and taste disgusting anyway.
HFCS free foods are more commonplace now so theyre not so hard to find. Due to borderline hypertension and a bad fmaily history I also watch my sodium, which is harder; salt is in almost everything, sigh.
I think if you're looking for an easy to lose weight or maintain your weight watching your sugars (in whatever form) is an easy way to go, people really arent designed for high sugar consumption.
