gun purchase delayed... & CHP question

I didn't have a problem on Wednesday using my CHP as a second ID. You guys must be some of those trouble makers that are always posting on the internet while clinging to your God and guns

I know several people who feel he is the anti-Christ. From my studies I do not believe it is him. I don't think the U.S. is spoken of anywhere in Revelation and therefore the anti-Christ will not come from here. I do believe conditions have to right for the rise of the anti-Christ and that the condition of the presidency of the U.S. is a condition that could forestall the anti-Christs rise. The correct president must be in office for that to happen, and I believe that could be the current situation.

I originally thought that too, but what if he were really born in Kenya and dont forget his father was a British citizen. That puts a little different twist on it. He may not actually be from the US. And the anti-Christ will indeed be a person of deception.

Hey, I cant help it. I love this place and usually live here unless Young drags me away. I'm just glad she doesnt own a machete. She does have a good sized cleaver though...

Well gentlemen, I've used my CCW to purchase every firearm I've acquired in the last 7 months & have not had any problems or delays. I've even purchased handguns in less than 30 days apart and as close as 1 week apart with no problems. I've had to wait aprox. 30 minutes at the Chantilly gun show because of the sheer volume of transactions but that's it.

I have used my CHP to purchase firearms recently (including handguns in less than 30 days) and it went straight through. Was with a LEO buddy, we went to pick up new handguns, and her approval took so long she had to go back the next day to pick up their pistol. That was one instance where I purchased a 2nd handgun within 30 days, and had it completed in about 10 minutes. Dealer said it was the sheer volume of transactions, and the dealer even called and told the state police it was a LEO waiting, but it didn't help... So it's hard to say what's going on.

Well, suffice it to say that due to the stories here my CHP will stay safely tucked in my wallet - unless I have to present it to an LEO. I'll stick with a DL and voter card unless I'm compelled to buy 2 handguns withing the 30 day window.

I used my CHP last time I bought a 2 pistols and had no hickups! took about 10min(we where chatting) and about 40min(in long line at gun show to ring up)

For some reason, it has taken a very long time for me to get approved for gun purchases. 2-3 hours for a handgun, 1 1/2 hour for shotgun and I had to go back the next day to pick up my AR-15. I have not used my CHP for a purchase yet, maybe that will speed things up for me.

Are these purchases all at the same store? If so, are others experiencing a similar delay? I've bought guns 3 different places in the last 6 months. At 2 (Gilberts and Gander Mountain) the BC went through in a couple of minutes. At 1 (Dick's) it took about 45 minutes.

In the past 2 or 3 years I'm delayed 1 hour each time. I have a second photo ID I've tried to use from the Department of Criminal Justice Services but they won't take for some reason. Hell I've gone through the deepest anal examine with them already, State Troopers talking to neighbors and everything. I did find out some guy with my name in Ohio causes my red flag.

Longest delay I ever had was 30min when using a CHP as required ID, and that was at a very busy gun show. Otherwise it has gone through quickly every time, just a couple minutes at most. One guy did ask if I had made a purchase in the last 30 days and when I said no he said "ok Ill just run it regular" whatever that means. I gave him 3 forms of ID to make things easy so he probably used the other one instead.

You guys with delays, definitely try not using your CHP and see if that changes things. Why in the hell it would cause a delay is beyond me but who knows. It should be a free pass to skip the check altogether.

Also do you have a common name? Like above with the "some guy in Ohio" thing. Best way around this is probably to put your SSN on the paperwork so they know its you not the bad guy but who wants to do that with all the id theft these days.

I have used both CCP and Voter ID... using both, i have always been delayed...

when i bought my last 3.5" 11-87 super mag at dicks it was taking a L O N G time...guy behind the counter was doing his best dog and pony show to keep me occupied, which i really apprciacted, as i got to handle and closely inspect about 20 differnet makes and models of rifles and shotguns...talked ammo...and accessories...and hunting clothing and bows and crossbows and and and and and and....i had allot more fun waiting than i would have guessed, but I finally left, and the sales man and the "manager", i guess, were very apologietic, and said all the right things and and said they would call me ASAP once they received the all clear, etc...they did, and it all , finally, worked out... a +1 for dicks customer service,

well, after some investigative work with a few folks i n the know...I was born oversea under a SOFA visa...
so guess what, i was told that pretty much expect to ALWAYS BE DELAYED for every firearm purchase...

...OK, spoke to a manager - the *pinhead* who was working the firearms section didn't bother to check when I called. Oh well, everything is back, purchase made, have another 25% off courtesy of the manager (future purchase) - finished "dressing-up" the new shotgun (just a tactical flashlight, nothing fancy).

Did a once over, everything seems good-to-go; so tomorrow putting round down-range to pop the cherry....

starting off with a NewEngland "Pardner" 5-shot.... $220 at Dick's; Remington shells from Walmart (5/rds $4/box); also have some double-O.

It takes at least an hour, usually longer, and most of the time I simply start the process today, and "I'll be back in a day or two to pick it up." It's easier that way than standing around the store. (I want to say the check is good for 48 hours but I'm not 100% sure of that. I know I have gone more than 24 before.) I have a fairly common name which I suspect is the culprit.

My wife on the other hand, who's name is much less common, comes back almost always right away.

The volumn of traffic makes the biggest difference. When there's a gun show in town, it slows down. At Christmas, count on a delay.

Actually, they are required to complete the sale/transfer without a BC if the VASP cannot provide reason otherwise within 1-2 business days depending on the circumstance as long as you provide the required ID and fill out the forms. I was surprised to see this too. Heres the VA code:

18.2-308.2:2.B.2 (Criminal history record information check required for the transfer of certain firearms.)

2. The State Police shall provide its response to the requesting dealer during the dealer's request, or by return call without delay. If the criminal history record information check indicates the prospective purchaser or transferee has a disqualifying criminal record or has been acquitted by reason of insanity and committed to the custody of the Commissioner of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, the State Police shall have until the end of the dealer's next business day to advise the dealer if its records indicate the buyer or transferee is prohibited from possessing or transporting a firearm by state or federal law. If not so advised by the end of the dealer's next business day, a dealer who has fulfilled the requirements of subdivision 1 of this subsection may immediately complete the sale or transfer and shall not be deemed in violation of this section with respect to such sale or transfer. In case of electronic failure or other circumstances beyond the control of the State Police, the dealer shall be advised immediately of the reason for such delay and be given an estimate of the length of such delay. After such notification, the State Police shall, as soon as possible but in no event later than the end of the dealer's next business day, inform the requesting dealer if its records indicate the buyer or transferee is prohibited from possessing or transporting a firearm by state or federal law. A dealer who fulfills the requirements of subdivision 1 of this subsection and is told by the State Police that a response will not be available by the end of the dealer's next business day may immediately complete the sale or transfer and shall not be deemed in violation of this section with respect to such sale or transfer.
