Bloomberg cannot affect national policies. Obama can. That power makes him by far the greater threat.

This, from CNN of all places!
"Gun control or carry permits won't stop mass murder

Mass murder is regrettably one of the painful consequences of the freedoms we enjoy."

Well, CNN has that entirely wrong. "Mass" murder can be prevented by armed citizens responding to the initiation of the incident. Under our real freedoms as guaranteed by the Constitution, including the proper understanding of the 2nd Amendment, there is no reason for such "painful consequences" to exist.

Pains me to say it, but I have to say in a dark crowded movie theater with echoing gunshots deafening everyone and people running all over the place an armed citizen returning fire would have likely raised the death toll.

I know some gun owners think of themselves as well tuned death dealers who would have turned on their built in night vision and calmly picked out the shooter amongst the dark chaos, but in reality two people shooting would have made this worse.

I feel for the people who were just trying to watch an over-hyped movie, but this was a truly unavoidable tragedy and really shouldn't even reflect on guns at all.

Not long ago in Japan a psycho managed to kill 11 without a gun; he drove his car onto a crowded sidewalk, killing a few people that way, then ran around stabbing people until subdued.

These things happen.

I do believe that, unless I was positioned right by the door, with a clear and unobstructed view of the guy, I'd be ducking under the seats. I'd probably duck under the seats, regardless.

I am the first to admit that I am not a Bruce Willis character.

Man, we need stricter car and knife control laws. Did you know they let anyone have a license and a blade? The goverment and the military should be the only ones with vehicles and sharp impliments! People don't need to cut thier food or drive to the store, that's for cavemen!

But you won't hear that on the evening news. Ford, GMC, Calphalon, and OXO's products don't have a stigma about them like Ruger's or Colt's do in the eyes of your average, scared, uneducated urbanite.

Couldn't resist posting this comment from another site.
James holes did not shoot the victims himself. He needed the roads and the bridges to get to the theater. Without the aid of the government James Holmes could not have accomplished this on his own! Thank you Obama for the civics lesson !

As to having to shoot from across a theater? Probably not... I would evacuate my family ASAP... That being said, if someone just randomly stands next to me shooting? I think a .380 behind the left, or right, ear would solve the situation.

I am saying what was reported at 4 A.M. It along with other "facts" will change after the chaos subsides.
It was mentioned at the news conference from the PD that he was indeed wearing full body armor from head, chest, groin, thigh, shins and was wearing a gas mask. It would have been extremely hard to take him out. The 5.56 carried by LEO's I doubt would have effected him at all unless they were able to shoot him in the face.

.556, like most rifle calibers in most rifles, will ABSOLUTELY change one's behavior.

Don't believe CSI.

We can find fault with the media and guess about the reason and nit pick all the details but the bottom line in this situation is that we ( responsible law abiding gun owners) are going to pay the price for the actions of this nut job. Like all good politicians they will use this tragedy to further their anti-gun efforts. Look for another assault wepons ban (they call everything thats not a wheelgun an assault weapon). They will never understand that its not the guns but the lack of gray matter between the ears of the crimminals that choose to use them to commit their crimes. All they need do is to take a look at Chicago where its already illegal to carry a firearm to see how well their ( do away with guns, do away with crime) lack of logic is working. Disarm all the law abiding people of this Country and this whole Country turns into Chicago or worse. One thing we can depend on is for our elected officials to do the dumbest, most illogical, politically driven thing they can collectively come up with. Our 2A rights are already on the endangered list. This is going to push it closer to extinction.

fully aware of a 5.56 capabilities as I am prior military and LEO. However, since the shooter took the time to ensure he was armored head to toe including a throat panel I'm sure he didn't skimp on the quality of the armor that he bought. I think back to the North Hollywood shooting, the Patrol LEO's weren't carrying assault rifles and had to procure some from the local gun stores and after a fierce gun fight the were finally able to drop the subjects. Today's armor is 15 years more advanced from then and designed more for battle survive-ability than from a handgun round. Not that the 5.56 round is bad but it's a 50 year old technology, and in that 50 year time frame the defenses for that round have been improved tremendously.

I was in Colorado Springs back in January, my wife and I went to a movie, and as I was walking past the ticket taker I noticed the "no guns" sign..I was CCing with a valid Indiana LTCH, so I didn't tell, and they didn't ask. I would hope and pray that were I in that type of situation I would have the guts to respond appropriately..

Piers Morgan and Rachel Maddow running their mouths right now about gun control. Morgan just rudely cut off a guest and would not let him answer his questions. The second amendment is under full assault tonight.

My 2 cents:

Well, we all know where this one is going.... blame the guns, blame the violent movies, the violent video games, the parents, the schools, the music, the crazy social ills of the kids... blame everything other than the perpetrator... yep, he had a bad childhood, his parents didn't love him... he had a mental problem (obviously)... he is not to blame... society is to blame.... ban the guns, ban the bad video games, ban the bad violent movies... then put him in treatment for 10 years, pay for it with my money and then turn him loose after a liberal judge and the ACLU gets him released, so he can instruct other to do the same and possibly do it all again.... well, I have a CCP and you can bet your azz that I am carrying and will continue to do so....

I am a former Marine with a fair amount of weapons training, I grew up around guns and am an avid hunter... I have played violent video games and viewed violent movies for years and I have many friends that are like me... but I have never attempted to harm anyone and IMHO have lived a rather quiet life. I am however, prepared to protect myself and my family if the need arises. I may not be able to stop something like this from happening but you can rest assured that I will do what I can to prevent myself and family from being harmed.

I don't know what the answer may be here but I do know that the easy blame is not the answer and banning the guns is also not the answ er.... this guy was smart, he had no criminal record, he was a college graduate and was working toward his PhD... He purchase the weapons (as far as I know) legally and no law would have stopped him...

We live in a free society and unless you are willing to place personal restrictions on everyone (except of course the criminals, because obviously they don't follow the laws anyway!!) you probably can never stop all of this from happening. Unless our free society is willing to give up or seriously curtail its’ freedoms.... there is really no sure way to stop this and even in countries that have totally banned firearms.... violence is still there... humans are predators by nature and people that wish to harm you will always find a way.... whether it is a gun, a knife, an automobile or a broom stick.... if someone wants to harm you... it will happen... the only thing you can do as an individual to protect yourself is to have the ability and the tools to do it.... whatever that requires.

God Bless America and stand up for your rights, do not let the powers that be take away your legal right to protect yourself... you can be assured that if this government disarms you.... they will still be armed... and then how could you possibly resist whatever they want and wish upon you. Think before you over react on these senseless tragedies...

The Communist News Network also referred to in this country as CNN's headline is so sickening "Like Hunting Season" Yea they don't have an agenda. And ABC tried to link the shooter to the Tea Party. These folks have no shame what so ever.

Law abiding people don't need guns. In the event of crime, just wait for the police. Like the 69 dead people on Utøya who waited for 1 hour.
