I have been a Green Top customer for around 60 years and have always enjoyed their customer service. Hope this move works out well for them and us customers!

I went there yesterday (Gander Mt, and Greentop) GM's prices still were suckish, and the guns were over priced.....still guns or ammo were NOT on sale. They might sell some if they lowered the prices....oh and they did lower the prices on the Enfields I mentioned in another post.....now they are only $899, and $799...down from $999....wow! So then I went to Greentop...cool place, and prices were ok, used guns were high (to me) Of course I am spoiled coming from Indiana, up there I could get a S&W M&P-15 OTD for about $800. here, prices are crazy high.........why is that?

I think this is good for the gun world. If a gun store is doing so well that they have to get a bigger place I say great!

Went to Gander yesterday... Agreed, the prices still have a ways to fall before I'm willing to part with cash. It's not just the fact the percentages were off, it's the fact that the guys working there have never been used to being BUSY sooooo MUCH until NOW! HAHAHAH
It's hard to find help!

I say good riddance to them and hope the company goes under. I've only been to the one that was outside of Glen Allen ( I think this is the store that's closing right?) and it was ridiculously priced. Now that they bowed down to the anti's by having NRA events cancelled (in a wisconsin store) to help the gov get reelected is just by far the dumbest thing I've heard. They are quoted saying the decision was based on not wanting to take a political stand/events. WTF is that, just by selling anything firearm related is taking a political stand. I know that this is from one state, but this is a company decision and so should be treated as such. I'm sure most people don't buy from them, but now this company should be added to the Virginia boycott list for sure.
Charles.

You know? I concur with Charles... that's a really poor decision considering the selling of firearms IS a political statement!
But? My "Jew-Di" powers won't allow me to pay full retail, so when my stuff gets LOWER? Then I buy, if not? Nah buyin' SQUAT!

UPDATE:
A'ight, I talked with some folks at Green Top to find out about the move. First? There will be no more camping section. They researched it, and found you either carried cheap junk, or expensive gear that can be found for less on the internet.
They're expanding clothing (from the article, we knew), but they're going to floor stock most of the stuff they haven't been able to do. GreenTop has a HUGE warehouse space that's two levels in sections, and has a variety that they cannot even put out on the floor. So you'll find more options for fishing, archery, clothing, and firearms accessories.
They're going to stock more of the "Evil Black Rifles" as well. They've already become a dominate player in the AR market for the local area in their "Lil Black Rifle Corner", but they're going to stock AK's, and other brands more frequently. (Check the sales flyer, AK's on sale).
All in all? Love'em? Hate'em? They're going to dominate the area for choice. Hopefully prices will come down, but fill one hand with hope, and the other hand with Obama... There ya' go.

Went to GM Tuesday. Nothing I wanted was on sale. Customer service wasn't bad, but the prices were.

I'm thinking that the "ammo prices aren't included in the discounts" may change if they have to MOVE all that frakin' ammo! I'm gonna "drop by", and see if that changes...
NOTE: THEY CLOSE FRIDAY, OR SATURDAY!
If you want to see if they're gonna go lower, give them a try.

I wonder if they maybe cut a deal with Green top to take all the ammo and etc stuff that remains that doesn't make sense for them to return to their central distribution- that would explain the prices not dropping, knowing they could recover at least cost

Good point! I would like to know what the layout of the "NEW" Greentop is going to be?

It's supposed to take the building over at the end of July, or whenever Gander just says "I cannot sell anymore stuff."

Visited yesterday, and the gun counter is entirely picked over. They do have a fair amount of archery and blackpowder supplies remaining. Also remaining are lots of fishing tackle and rods, but few reels.

I know where Greentop has always been. Used to stop by there anytime I got to Richmand, and everytime on my way to or back from the Eastern Shore for duck/goose hunting.
But where is this Gander Mountain store they're moving to? I don't think I know.

Ashland. You can see the sign from 95 going South...
Take the next exit and a right following the signs.
