Come on Rick, you can't talk about personal freedoms and in the same breath restrict what people/organizations can and can't do. You put liberalization in a bad tone, but Wikipedia describes liberalization as "a relaxation of previous government restrictions, usually in areas of social or economic policy. In some contexts this process or concept is often, but not always, referred to as deregulation." Um, isn't that what Republicans want? Limited government and personal freedoms?
Your examples you provide contradict your argument of personal freedoms and personal responsibilities.

Excellent choice! If I had kids, I'd make the choice to home school them. Relying on public education is a joke, but it provides a baseline so that EVERYONE has the opportunity to get a BASIC education. Don't expect anything more than that from a government program. If you want your children to have more, it's your

personal responsibility to monitor what you think your kids should and should not see based on your beliefs. Maybe you're just tired of having to put in the effort to find content that matches up with your beliefs, but that's no reason to limit what gets put on TV and in movies. I believe that our media is a bit conservative compared to other countries. The shows I watch don't bleep out "swear" words (you know, those words that you and I use in everyday life anyway) and show nudity (you know, because we've seen that stuff before). If you don't feel that content is suitable for your youngins (I would agree that it is not), it is
your responsibility to find material that is, but don't limit what others can see or offer as content.

I wonder if people said similar things before women and black people had the right to vote too. Once again we have a group of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens that don't have the same rights and benefits as the rest of the country. How can a party that talks about liberty and freedom not be for securing those rights? As far as cannabis, we already have one naturally grown plant that we smoke (tobacco) that generates a ton of taxable revenue each year, despite the horrible side effects, the number of people that die from those side effects each year, and the increased cost for health care that those people put on the rest of us. Why can't we create another source of taxable revenue from another naturally grown plant that we smoke and let the consumers exercise
personal responsibility in if they want to partake in those products or not. I personally don't consume tobacco products because of the side effects but have no problem with others making their own choice. Yes, it's someone exercising their
personal responsibility to fix a mistake if they so choose. We can do all kinds of crazy things to our body - piercings, tattoos, various implants. Heck, we are even changing genders. I don't see abortion any differently.
The party of limited government is really about limiting what you can and can't do. But I guess that's ok when you do it in the name of "saving America's morale fiber". I'm sure glad Santorum dropped out! I'm scared we would have been revisiting those puritan days!!
Great discussion. I definitely agree with you on the welfare issue. I like to hope that if we don't have so many handouts that people will exercise that
personal responsibility and you won't hear the stories about someone having 14 kids. I'm not exactly sure on how to go about doing that.
