It's not about political party any longer. Both parties are complicit in getting us where we are today. The left has pushed and pushed. The right has given and given. Examples are indicated in my post above.ShotgunBlast wrote:Could you give some examples from the last 30 years that show the country has taken a far turn to the left? Especially how since the majority of the 80s and 90s had Republican presidents?
bingo. the degree to which this mentality permeates our society, especially the youth, is disturbing.allingeneral wrote: It's about the removal of personal responsibility and personal liberty and replacing them with a sense that "it will all be OK - just let the government take care of it for you".
i believe fixing this is paramount to getting this country back on track (see my sig).>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>OakRidgeStars wrote:Did anyone notice which day Obama picked to launch his "Forward" campaign slogan?.
No?. How about May 5th.
What's May 5th, you ask?.
Why, it's Karl Marx birthday of course. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Marx
Try to contain your shock and amazement.
Your sensibility has no place in America. Jurisprudence is a communist tool.ShotgunBlast wrote:I'll agree with this article instead.
http://maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2 ... scare?liteWhen voters see "forward," the Obama campaign wants them to think about progress, advancement, and aspirations. When the right sees "forward," they think about secret communist propaganda.
And people wonder why our public discourse is so stunted.

If someone didn't "push the envelope" as you refer to it, wouldn't we still be dressed head to toe like the puritans of the 1500s? We would only show Elvis from the waist up on television until someone "pushed the envelope". You look back at things like that and think to yourself "wow, they were silly".allingeneral wrote:It's more about the liberalization of our society as a whole and the effects that this liberalization is having on our children, who become adults and feel the need to push the envelope further.
Excellent choice! If I had kids, I'd make the choice to home school them. Relying on public education is a joke, but it provides a baseline so that EVERYONE has the opportunity to get a BASIC education. Don't expect anything more than that from a government program. If you want your children to have more, it's your personal responsibility to provide more (which you are).allingeneral wrote:I'm so fed up with the F'ed up public school system that I have chosen to pay through the nose to send my kids to a private school so that they can concentrate on their work without all the pressures from today's "educators" who feel the need to fill kids' heads full of garbage instead of just teaching the curriculum.
Again, I commend you for being a great parent!! It is your personal responsibility to monitor what you think your kids should and should not see based on your beliefs. Maybe you're just tired of having to put in the effort to find content that matches up with your beliefs, but that's no reason to limit what gets put on TV and in movies. I believe that our media is a bit conservative compared to other countries. The shows I watch don't bleep out "swear" words (you know, those words that you and I use in everyday life anyway) and show nudity (you know, because we've seen that stuff before). If you don't feel that content is suitable for your youngins (I would agree that it is not), it is your responsibility to find material that is, but don't limit what others can see or offer as content.allingeneral wrote:TV and the media in general are some of the worst culprits. I can't hardly even turn on Nickelodeon without hearing or seeing some sort of sexual innuendo aimed at 5 year old minds. Not even History and Discovery are "safe" anymore. TV programming has gone down the tube (so to speak), and I have to watch like a hawk to make sure that my kids aren't viewing something in the middle of the afternoon that should be reserved for the 2am timeslot.
I wonder if people said similar things before women and black people had the right to vote too. Once again we have a group of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens that don't have the same rights and benefits as the rest of the country. How can a party that talks about liberty and freedom not be for securing those rights? As far as cannabis, we already have one naturally grown plant that we smoke (tobacco) that generates a ton of taxable revenue each year, despite the horrible side effects, the number of people that die from those side effects each year, and the increased cost for health care that those people put on the rest of us. Why can't we create another source of taxable revenue from another naturally grown plant that we smoke and let the consumers exercise personal responsibility in if they want to partake in those products or not. I personally don't consume tobacco products because of the side effects but have no problem with others making their own choice. I personally don't smoke weed because of the side effects but have no problem with others making their own choice.allingeneral wrote:I say that if you want to smoke pot, then move to Holland.
If you're a man and you want to marry your boyfriend, then move to Holland.
Yes, it's someone exercising their personal responsibility to fix a mistake if they so choose. We can do all kinds of crazy things to our body - piercings, tattoos, various implants. Heck, we are even changing genders. I don't see abortion any differently.allingeneral wrote:Don't even get me started on abortion. I have two words to say there - Personal Responsibility. OK - call this coincidence if you want to, but it's pretty clear to me that it starts with the same letter as F*&ked!Kreutz wrote: Forward.
