I'm used to carrying a DA/SA gun with one in the chamber, decocked. Got a Sig 229 and H&K USPc. When I started carrying my Kimber in condition 1, I admit it did take a little getting used to. Now I don't give it a thought.

I carry either my Kimber Eclipse ProII or my Para Ordnance P13-45 ONLY in condition 1.
Cocked, Locked, Ready to Rock.

Plaxico Burress would disagree with you. The difference is the backstrap safety, which a Glock does not have. You can fire a Glock by clamping it in a vise and pulling back on the trigger with a pencil. You can't do that with a 1911. The difference between a quality pistol and a Glock is that you have to intend to fire a quality pistol for it to go off.

Great points gorknoids. Thats the reason I love my 1911s. You must flick the safety AND be gripping the pistol in order for it to fire. IMO the backstrap safety was one of the most ingenious inventions for a pistol. Its been around for a long time.

I guess the only problem with that is that you have no round in the chamber at a half cock...

I've read that the half-cock notch is not as deep as the full-cock notch on the hammer, and can cause premature wear/failure to the sear. Anybody else hear something similar?

Either way, I carry mine in condition 1. I've preacticed drawing and flipping off the thumb safety so that by the time I'm sighted on target, it's ready to go. It's just a matter of practice and muscle memory.

I always carry in condition 1, cocked & locked.

Okay, I'll bite - I don't deny there are some quality 1911's out there... but to say a Glock isn't because you can pull the trigger with a pencil ain't gonna sway me. Just because Plaxico decided he was gonna carry it in a manner that was unsafe doesn't mean it's a bad firearm. If you don't want a Glock to fire - don't touch the trigger...

Any device, no matter how well conceived, can be defeated by a moron. Moron = anyone dumb enough to do a Mexican carry with sweatpants.

As stated by Zephyp any safety device can be defeated. That is why the safety device is part of the Glock's trigger system. I seem to remember that you DON'T put your finger on the trigger untill you are ready to fire your weapon and it is on target. That means not when you are drawing same from the holster or when the weapon is down by your side. The you-tube video show's a smacked ass of an ATF agent that never had any right to be in front of school kid's and trying to impart his Vast Knowledge to them. What a joke this guy is.

Nothing to it. Just remember that you must flick off the safety AND grip the weapon before it can be fired. It only takes a couple of times to get used to it. I also recommend a holster where the safety on the body side rests against leather and not clothes or skin (some IWB dont). Gives you a little more confidence thats its not going anywhere. I carried a Beretta 92, which I love, because it was always hammer down. Now carrying my Colt cocked and locked doesnt bother me in the least.

I've always carried my 1911's or Browning Hi Power's in Condition One. I've always been confortable with the weapon used in such a manner.

I have never understood the fear some people have of a cocked hammer with the safety applied.... What looks "scary" to them, looks "proper" to me.
