You should maybe go back and read the article. He accepted money from a company that was awarded a contract in Liberia while Charles Taylor was in power. T-Mac did NOT get money from Charles Taylor.

No doubt they're shady, but that's how business is done in most of the world. We just don't need more of it here.
I read the whole article sir. A company associated with Taylor is as good as Taylor himself. You don't have to agree, but thanks for your input.

It's the executive, not the legislature, that has to take the lead in pushing back against the feds--and McAuliffe will facilitate rather than resist the Obama agenda--on guns and much else. I think that McAuliffe has made that very clear in recent days.
I confess I am still unfamiliar with the complete workings of the state government here but can't the state legislature keep the governor "in check" as it were?

To a point, but in fact, Old Eagle is correct.

How much "Federal Access" we grant depends on whose the executive in office. The legislature can hold the purse strings, and create the laws, but if the Governor want's to give free reign to Federal Forces within the Commonwealth, the Legislature cannot do a thing to stop him.

Also, the Executive branch can dictate how much they want the LEO's in the state guv'mint to direct their investigations. For example: California uses little if any of their state forces on illegal immigration, but have a brown-shirted department for firearms, and firearms owners.

Cooky Cucinelli is going to lose. All that idiot cares about is himself and getting elected and he has some Tea Party wannabe wingnut as his running mate. Bolling should had been the nominee. He would be crushing the libtard McAuliffe. Stupid Tea Party is going to give VA a new Dem. governor.

The same can be said of self-promoting TMac. He also considered running for Governor of FL and NY http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/2 ... 46013.html

so....really the guy just picked VA out of three possible states to run in. That tells me he cares deeply about the Commonwealth and will strive to...oh hell, I can't even be sarcastic here, the dude is a whore.
and he has some Tea Party wannabe wingnut as his running mate. Bolling should had been the nominee. He would be crushing the libtard McAuliffe. Stupid Tea Party is going to give VA a new Dem. governor.
The Tea Party has good and bad points but they're pretty energetic and most importantly they seem involved.

And in an off-year election with traditionally low turn-out, they can make "the" difference.

Since this is the first governor race since I moved here I've been following it fairly closely to see how things work here. And despite polls showing it being a toss-up I can't help but notice the Republican base seems alot more motivated than the Dem base.

Just as a personal anecdote I live in red Roanoke county surrounding blue Roanoke city, during the 2012 elections I saw the usual array of lawn signs in each area, but I'm not seeing any TMac signs anywhere, but alot of KC signs here.

Character and courage of convictions.

Not a popular thing these days in the Northeast. Lets hope the dividing line is north of us!

So what are you going to do? Sit the election out then complain when they enact strict anti-gun legislation? Vote for the Libertarian and help McAuliffe?

I'm sure a lot of people on this board don't think they have a dog in this fight, maybe you own just a hunting rifle and maybe a revolver. The sad truth is they will come for all of them, all it will take is time, public perception and the news media equating all of us to killers.

Cucinilli isn't the ideal candidate but he's the only one that can win and protect our freedoms. If you want Sarvis he needs to run the same way a Rand Paul ran as a Republican Libertarian and he could win the nomination if we don't go completely blue.
Remember you can't go back, once laws are in place they are difficult to repeal. Look at Colorado they had a recall but the laws are still on the books. Maybe they have the votes to repeal but if the Governor veto's they might not have enough to override.

The way I look at it you have two choices:
1 Stand and fight to get Cucinilli elected and keep our rights intact then work to get more of a libertarian elected in the next election
2 Sit it out/vote for Sarvis and hand the election to McAuliffe, pray that we can get a candidate in the next election that can win all while watching them pass "common sense" gun control making us look like NY, MA, CT, MD, CO, CA

@zykur - don't worry about wolfhfac voting for Sarvis. That one is an idiot libtard and will be in McAwful's camp, no question.

Best Virginia Gov. that dirty Democrat money can buy.

Calm down, everyone. McAuliffe can't get any gun control bills through the General Assembly and he knows it.

You'd think from reading this thread that the Governor of Virginia is a king capable of dictating laws from his throne.

I think the real concern is two-fold:

1) It'd be four years of getting no new pro-gun legislation passed.

2) Any anti-gun laws he does get signed into law will be very difficult to overturn. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure after all.

I don't think that is the big issue right now. Right now I'm very sure TMac is going to win. It's not bad enough that the nation is set in their views that Republicans are bad. Couple that with the fact that TMac has every power player campaigning for him. Now I just heard on the radio that next Monday, Biden and the emperor himself are going to campaign for him. There is no way Ken can fight that.

The bigger deal is where they are putting all the pressure. If they get VA and TX, say goodbye to ever seeing a Republican again. Say hello to hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants with a road paved in gold ready to welcome them in. With them all voting Democrat, the Republican party will cease to exist.

Like it or not, the Republic has already fallen. It's time to look out solely for yourself and your family.

But hey... isn't this what we wanted...

When Cuchinelli was attorney general he let this state get flooded with illegal aliens. I cant imagine him being governor.
Guys like him dont have to live next door to the problems they create.

Of course, we all know damn well a democrat governor would be giving them drivers licenses, in-state tuition, and welfare on the side, so that's not an option either.

I actually prefer independent, but since we have millions of simple minded people who honestly believe you can only vote Republican or Democrat, that will never happen.

Also I agree about McCaulfie and supporting the White House. Remember Arizona tried to deal with immigration problems at the state level and Obama steam rolled over them, illegally, but he did it. Having a democrat governor just means the fed will take over the state on big issues. The guy wont even have to go to work and fight every day for his platform, he'll leave it to the party.

I'm surprised to see the flip in popularity like that. Is it cuz of Clinton.

And if you look at the latest Washington Post poll, 53% of polled Sarvis supporters would vote for TM if Sarvis were not in the race while only 42% of Sarvis supporters would vote for KC and 2% would stay home.

KC is down in every poll, more often than not by more than the margin of error. EW Jackson is down in polling too. Can't blame Sarvis on this one (although that's exactly what the GOP will do). I don't think the GOP convention produced the winning ticket those in power thought it would. A KC loss would also break the 30+ year streak of the opposite party to the POTUS winning the VA Gov election.
