Not much for the head-bangin' metal stuff, although I was raised on 60's and 70's rock. Have grown to love bluegrass (thanks Taggure!), blues, country, and the Texas blues/rock you hear on Outlaw Country. Goin' to see Robert Earl Keene again. October 22 in Charlottesville! Saw Todd Snider with Elizabeth Cook not too long ago at the Birchmere. Really love the Mavericks reunion CD. Raul Malo rocks!

Ted Nugent's Stormtroopin' He released it in 1975.. Still relevant today.. The version on Double Live Gonzo is the best I've heard..

I have that album... I'll have to dust off the turntable and reminisce... I remember hearing the live version of "Stranglehold" on the radio when that album came out.

As a teenager in the '70's and '80's, I was enamoured with the older rock music of the '60's. British invasion rock like the Beatles, The Who, the Stones... folkie stuff like Neil Young, Dylan, Buffalo Springfield... what was then called classic rock, like the Doors, CCR, Jefferson Airplane. I'll listen to the oldies stations on the radio sometimes, and can still sing along.
As a teenager, I also listened to the classical music radio station at night to help me go to sleep. No groovin' because there were no words, and it was very laid back in the wee hours.

So now... what am I listening to at this hour?? ClassicFM... commercial classical radio station in the UK. Antonio Vivaldi is on. Mozart was on earlier, as well as John Wiliams (Star Wars, Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln). Since I've been typing this, Vittorio Monti has come on now. Don't know him, but it's good!

Perfect on a chilly Saturday fall afternoon. enjoy.

Right now; I am listening to Iron Maiden.... When The Wild Wind Blows. Awesome song based on a graphic novel of the same title by Raymond Briggs in 1982. The plot of the story is as follows:

The book follows the story of the Bloggses, characters previously seen in the book Gentleman Jim. One afternoon the couple hears a message on the radio about an "outbreak of hostilities" in three days' time. Jim immediately starts construction of a fallout shelter (according to a protect and survive brochure), while the two reminisce about the Second World War. Their reminiscences are used both for comic effect and to show how the geopolitical situation has changed, but also how nostalgia has blotted out the horrors of war. A constant theme is Jim's optimistic outlook and his unshakeable belief that the government knows what's best and that it has the situation under full control, coupled with Hilda's attempts to carry on life as normal.
The Bloggses soon hear of enemy missiles heading towards England, and they just make it into their shelter before a nuclear explosion. They stay in it for several days, misreading the advice given in governmental leaflets: they believe they have to stay in the shelter for two days instead of two weeks. They do briefly go outside to get some fresh air and rainwater, exposing themselves to a large amount of radioactive fallout. They also, unknowingly, smell the burning corpses of their neighbours.
Jim and Hilda exhibit considerable confusion regarding the serious nature of what has happened after the nuclear attack; this generates gentle comedy as well as darker elements: amongst them, their obliviousness of the fact that they are probably the only people left of their acquaintance. As the novel progresses, their situation becomes steadily more hopeless as they begin to suffer the effects of radiation sickness. Hilda suffers the most, losing her hair, vomiting and has bleeding gums. Both of them suffer bruising but mistake these for varicose veins.
The book ends on a bleak note, with them praying in their fallout shelter as death approaches.

My last drive shift, from last night to this morning, I listened to almost 10 straight hours of sermons, primarily on the topic of not getting offended.

This drive shift, may be more of the same. Or maybe some classic Outlaw Country. Not sure, yet. Just pulled out of VA at 6am; only in Ok, now. Gotta be in Ca Monday morning, and I need to wake up!
