But don't forget, A&E is going to do an Anti-hate campaign in the form of public service announcements during the show to offset the flip-flop.

Why are dinosaurs never mentioned in the Bible if man was created shortly after earth was created?

The question that begs to be asked is:
Is that "shortly" on man's frame of reference, or God's?

Because the term dinosaur was created in the 19th century by sir Richard Owen (1842) and the bible was translated in the 16th century (William Tyndall and others 1520's or so). So they would not have used the term dinosaur since it has not been created. They would use the term monster or beast or dragon.

There are large beasts such as behemoth and leviathan mentioned that when one reads the description they sound for all the world like a dragon or a dinosaur. There occur in what is generally accepted as the oldest book of the bible Job. There are references the world over to dragons. Dinosaurs are not a problem with scripture.

There were several hundred different species of dinosaur that all would have apparently been around and quite large in numbers. Plus, carbon dating has proven that they were around 65 million years ago, humans not the other hand, not nearly that long.

Carbon dating only goes back about 62000 years at best, you are thinking of other dating methods uranium or possibly potassium. There is much circular logic in most dating methods. "We know the earth is X number of years and since we think we know this rock came from the earths earliest time period we will only accept a dating method that shows it to be X number of years old." There is much we cant really observe about how things decay or cannot know about what might influence rates of decay in elements. Anyway....

Look we could debate science...but you have your apriori bias and I have mine. You have your articles of faith (that you see as fact) and I have my articles of faith that I see as fact. You will never convince me and, in your present frame of mind, I won't try to convince you.

Your question was on the term dinosaurs....I answered it as to why linguistically the term dinosaurs is not used in the bible.

Am I missing something? Where in the bible does it say man was created shortly after earth was created? Are we talking about the story of Adam and Eve? If so, that was a dramatization to make a point. Symbolism, if you prefer.

The story of Adam and Eve is not about the beginning of life and the start of the earth. The bible does not go back to the beginning of time; only the beginning of faith in Jehovah and the creation of an earth toiled by man in God's honor.

People existed on earth before Adam was "created" (born) and that is noted in the Old Testament. Adam was the first man created in God's image (the first man to believe in and honor God). Adam was originally married to a person named Lilith long before Eve was "created" (became a believer).

I dunno, Marc. That's not how I understand it.

I'm pretty content to accept the account of creation presented in Genesis literally. I'm also content that "day" doesn't mean "one 24 hour period" in the context of Genesis. When Genesis reads "On this day, God did thus and so", I understand it to mean "In this AGE, God did thus and so". A lot can happen in an age with no specific length. In a particular age, God may create beast of various sorts, then let some die off, as they would inhibit the survival of mankind. Then he could create different beasts.

As to Miss Lillith, I just did a little Googling to check up on her, and while I am not an expert on Lillithology, I found nothing to convince me that she had any connection to Adam, at all. I did, however, find a justification for my dislike of owls. Creepy, are those things.

Genetics have proven that there are two distinctly different human DNA patterns; homo neanderthalensis and homosapien. Homosapien is about 400,000 year old gene pool and all trace back to Africa, while homo neanderthalensis spontaneously appeared on earth about 250,000 years ago with no known traceable roots. This gene is present in all people not directly traceable to African decent and cannot be found in anyone with traceable African decent.

I can't help but wonder where the other untraceable gene pool came from.

In Judaism Adam was not the first man, but the first one with a soul.

In any event the Garden thing is kind of a parable, a setting for the fall from Grace.

Though I always did find this kind of fascinating:
Genesis 3:19
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return to the earth, out of which thou wast taken: for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return.
I find this fascinating because a few millennia later organic chemistry and spectroscopy would confirm we are in fact dust as carbon is literal stardust since stars are the only place hot enough for the nucleosynthesis of such a heavy atom.

Trippy!

Just because we share a common element with dust doesn't mean that we are dust, stardust or otherwise.

Science does what science does....makes hypothesis and then tests them. That is all it does that is all it can do. Can those things impact our lives, certainly. Are those things absolute....no.

There are thousands of scientific facts littering the floor of history. All it takes is one test that does not support the hypothesis to put it into question. Even germ theory long established has been knocked around recently.

That is science. Always changing, never certain. That is how science is.

Faith is different. Faith says I trust in my God who has never left me who has never done me wrong who has shown me great love. So all that the things I don't know the things I don't understand I can set aside. It is ok to say I don't know, because God does.

That is faith. It is an entirely different animal than science.

We are carbon; along with all other known organic lifeforms.

And the carbon came from stars. This isn't a simile, we are literally made of stardust (to the tune of 93% of your body).

It has mutated or evolved ..... :hysterical:

LOL

A&E really did themselves in. If they had kept their mouth shut after the interview they would have been in a "he is free to have his own opinions place--this is business not personal". Now they look like panty waist-ed little girls without the courage of convictions nor the wisdom of business is business.

I don't play chess, just can't think ahead more than 5 or so moves. My husband however loves chess. He tells me you have to think ahead to the end game. Where do you want to be, where do you want them to be. Then think through the steps on how to make it happen. I have a feeling the producers of A&E don't even play chess as well as I do.

Good thread. Let's skip all of the postulation regarding Adam, Eve, Barney the dino, Lilith, 65 million, etc and go straight to the Big Bang. Actually, prior to the Big Bang.
What "was" before the bang? Something that just was? I am not asking what caused the bang; I'm asking where the stuff that went bang came from.

Ex nihilo nihilo fit..... Out of nothing.... Nothing comes. The uncaused cause. The uncreated one.

Scientists used to thing it was expand and then contract.....last I heard that was no longer a theory. So there must have been something that started the start.
