If you wait to long with those you're going to need a rifle!

So for those of us coming from far away what are the local hotel/motel options?

Camping is a non-option for us, so we need to head to a place with soft beds.

Looks like there is a place called Sheldons in Keysville.... any good? Avoid it?

I remember hearing good things last year about Sheldon's (I've never stayed there myself).

The next closest motels are in Farmville.

It's a decent place to stay, I use to stay there some during hunting season before moving here. For a place to eat try Nicole's Blazing Bugers and Breakfast. It's located about a half mile or so from Sheldon's. I'm going to pick up some menu's and have them at Bill's. The you have Pino's if you like Itailan food. Both places are gun friendly, buy then again everywhere is around here.

I am camping with two tents and the wife camping in the truck with my daughter. Who else is going to be camping out? I am bringing my firepit and wood for anybody that wants to sit around the fire at night, BS make hot dogs or whatever. Last year we had some cold beers that one of the members had home brewed and some very intense political and second amendment discussions. It was great. The camping for those that are new is in an open field of grass that is nice and flat. Not rugged at all and close to a lake. Nice view and close to where everybody was sitting and eating last year.

Mmm yummy Copperheads the other white meat. :letseat:
Seriously though, if anybody has a problem with a snake and does not like dealing with them I will be happy to take care of it. My name is John and i will be with my wife and two teenage boys and my daughter. I will be down at the camppsite and love snakes, not copperheads, but other snakes are just fine by me.I am experienced with snakes and will be happy to remove any from the area if need be.

I have some of those #8shot .45 rounds that are supposed to be for snakes. I have used them once when we were in Texas. I was stationed there when I was in the Army and we were camping. We pissed off a pair of western diamond back rattlesnakes when we picked up some dry wood that was in a deadfall. The #8 shot cut them in half but then they could still bite and move. I bet the Taurus would do the same unless you can hit it's head.I use a pair of tongs to move them if they are non-venomous or to pin them down so my knife can decapitate them if they are venomous. We probably won't see too many snakes with as much lead as we all are going to be slinging and the noise of all the people but it's a good idea to prepare, especially the little kids that don't know much about them.

Hey John
I will be camping as well and will have a tent set up for my Daughter and I so we will take you up on the fire pit if you don't mind the company. I have no problems with snakes as long as they don't try to share my bed My daughter may not be so nice to the snakes though and some of those pesky critters may lose their heads around her.

Hey Bill will it be alright if we come in on Friday night? it be a bit of a drive for Saturday morning from Manassas/Woodbridge.

I had a great uncle who used to grab snakes by the tail and snap them like a whip, which caused their head to pop off of their body - or so I've been told. I never actually saw him do it.

I have heard of that too. Not for me though, too chicken for that game. I am not scared of them but after handling a whole bunch of them and a couple of bites I have a healthy respect. Maybe I will try it on the next garter snake that looks at me funny.

Yep my oldtimer's kiked in. I was in Lynchburg all day and then had a SKS and a Mossberg 12 ga. to work on when I got home and I forgot all about showing up at your place. Sorry, will be there tonight I hope. The wife has made me put the sling back on to try and stop anymore damage to the shoulder so I am some what grumpy or grumpier them usual.

Anyone one can show up at any time we don't care. My son Bill Jr. will be in this afternoon from N.J. and the green field is all cut and ready for company. As far as the snakes go I have taken care of most of them I have shot 5 of them in the past week all down by the outflow pipe for the lake on the rock's. Please inform ALL CHILDREN not to go down there. Thank's
Bill

P.S. John,
I have plenty of firewood up in front of the house already seasond and split and the fire pit that I would like to see get used this year.

Duly noted. I will stay away.

Rain? Rained out?

Howdy gang:

So what's the verdict on the weather? Have a LOT of guns and gear to bring and keep dry and a long drive, and rain may keep me away. On the fence at this point, will decide late tonight based on the latest forecast and radar and will head down early tomorrow if things look like a decent chance for staying mostly dry. So are we still on?

Thanks
