I have a bunch of ammo arrival notifications set up on Midway's site, although it seems that as soon as I get the notification and immediately click to the site, it's already sold out...

Anyway, I went to check on stock this morning and noticed that arrival estimates for many brands of 9mm and .22LR have been pushed into 2014! I'm sure this is just to give themselves breathing room, but I am close to being out of both calibers (got a couple boxes of each), and totally disgusted with the whole situation. I've even sunk so low as to consider shopping at Dick's, but the guy there told me that the "same people every day" arrive before the store opens to see if any ammo's come in and buy it all up.

IMO, it's the true hoarders who are the problem, not the guy who buys a few boxes when it's available.

Yep, those hoarders are also the gougers at the gun shows. Call them a gouger to their face at the next one and keep on walking.

My experience with Midway backorders has been they're fairly accurate. They know what they've ordered and they're big enough to get their orders allocated from the manufacturer.

It's supply and demand. We're all part of the demand part and that's the current problem, a spike in demand. Gougers, hoarders, etc are just names people come up with who don't understand markets and didn't make any preparations.

RE: making preparations, some people don't have the financial ability to lay away tens of thousands of rounds of ammo in different calibers. Even for those who do, buy-as-you-need-it approaches generally worked well (with a few exceptions) up until the last election. You may not get the best price that way, but supply was fine until the panic set in.

As far as not understanding markets: silly comment.

I'd be willing to take a nice drive to someplace that had ammo in stock at a reasonable price. But hauling my butt a couple hours someplace, just to find out that everything sold in the interim, is a non-starter.

Bingo. I'm fairly new to shooting so I've never gone through a shortage before, but I'll be damned if I get caught with my pants down again. Once this settles down again I'm getting into a regular buying pattern until I have a good supply.

I find Midway is very accurate in their info unlike some other sites (looking at you Sportsman Guide)

If you are willing to buy bulk, try using gunbot.net - if you watch it you can occasionally find an online seller who is still having a good deal when they pop up. Cabella's online also seems okay.

I hope that's not the case -- I would not like to see their next shipment of Winchester white box this time next year!

Midway accepts backorders. Thus, they likely will be getting WWB before then, but it's already sold. So unless a bunch of backorders are cancelled, there likely won't be WWB list as available on their site until then.

Wal-mart in Mechanicsville has some Federal .30-30, and 4 boxes of Federal .380 ACP Hydra-shok.

Good luck!

Palmetto had some .22LR, but the site crashed several times and, as usual, stuff sells out while you are in the process of completing the checkout. Which, BTW, pisses me off more than it not being in stock in the first place -- especially since their servers are so slow.
