Here's a novel idea, why doesn't the government get out of the marriage business altogether???? If you want to be married, that's your business. If you want to have fifteen kids, that's your business. I see no reason for government involvement with tax deductions, financial aid, or anything else because of decisions that an individual makes! Of course I'm one of the lunatics that believe that if you earn one dollar a year, you should pay a set percentage of that dollar as tax to support the benefits of living in this country; if you earn sixty million dollars in year you should pay the same percentage of tax. It shouldn't matter who you are, how you get your money or what you believe concerning religion. I know that all of my friends and neighbors will dislike this idea, because it will hit them in the pocketbook. But if you think about it rationally, it's the only fair system. Of course, we gave up fairness when we took the first dollar from the general funds and gave it to an individual that didn't provide a product or perform a service to the nation.

As far as religion and marriage is concerned: If your religion dictates that a man and a woman be married before they live together (as mine does), then by all means have a wedding by the church. If your belief dictates that you be married to a tree, two emus and a girafe, have at it. Just don't expect my tax dollars to support your "marriage:, as I don't expect your tax dollars to support mine.

Regarding such things as insurance, hospital visitation, etc.. That should be between the service provider and the person. I promise that if an insurance company realizes that it can't sell a policy without the insured being able to name the beneficiary, they'll allow it. The same would be true of hospitals, etc.

I sure am a long winded old cuss, but I just had to get this off my chest! LET THE FLAMES BEGIN!!!!

Same goes for a Christian "mindset".
