Marc - I don't disagree with the points. Hell, I posted about getting access to background checks for private sales on this very forum a few years ago (and got blasted for the idea).

I disagree with the method. Had the Governor come to the legislature and said, "Hey, I think these are good ideas. What do you think?" then we could have had a discussion, and they might very well have come to fruition anyhow. By playing this option, both sides get to play political theater. It's bullshit.

Don't stop until you get full reciprocity. All others are just smoke and screen.
If Herring was just following the law, now he is breaking the law, by not cancelling reciprocity?
What's this BS?

And what happened with the security team for the Governor?

I hear you, Patrick. I see your point. We don't need political theater.

What the dems gained was another step in their quest for complete registration.
Private sales background checks have been voluntary for a very long time.. this is not new. The only change there is, now the State Police will have a booth to process those voluntary background checks instead of people asking vendors to do it. Vendors can say no, the SPD can't.

It's a long slow process for them. They realize this, and are willing to wait to achieve their ultimate goal.

I think it's a good thing that state police will have a booth. I've been to gun shows many times trying to sell one of my guns when some shady looking dude was up there trying to buy it from me. This is an easy way I can assure that he is not actually shady but just looks the part.

We got played. Plain, and simple.

They made "Concessions"in the GA when they had an entire voting populace pissed off, and backing them! I'll read more on it, but I concur with SHMIV.

We traded "land" for "peace". Screw that.

So now if you want to beat the crap out of your ex all you have to do is get a restraining order on them. Bam....now they are totally defenseless. How lovely.

Was bound to happen sooner or later. Most likely the plan all along, as others have said.

And how long before the states that already dropped us, restore our carry rights in their states? Haven't heard a peep about that yet, and several of those state dropped us right then.

The thing with restraining orders... they are so easy to get. Some jurisdictions seem to hand them out like candy on Halloween. My former aunt got a restraining order on my uncle, a few years back. It was just part of the larger plan to keep their daughter from him; that, and probably that she really enjoyed being cruel. That former aunt has since spent several years in prison for murdering her last boyfriend. My uncle, on the other hand, is still nonviolent, as he always has been.

It's not that I want to see violent people armed, but I find it utterly repulsive that an exgirlfriend with a grudge could make up a story, file some paperwork, and have my rights denied.

My questions are:
Is the VASP supposed or required to charge for this service? Or is the law to be written such that it will be a free service?
Also, will the information on the gun transaction be retained in some sort of database?
