I've never owned one of these, but if I could find one I'd love to. The majority of reports I've read about this, and the people I've talked to that have owned them say they are great. This is one of the guns I have on my list that I want if I can ever find a deal. I'm not willing to pay $250 or so for one though so I will just keep looking.

A few years back somebody who owed me for a set of kevlar through a complex deal even more years ago gave me one of the old style hi-point 9mm's. I put many a round through it and found it accurate and fun to shoot. I was advised to not put hot loads through it though by the guy who runs the local gun shop when I was buying ammo and he asked what kind of gun the 9mm ammo was for as he had some very powerful 9mm ammo available. I am not sure how the same hot load would affect the new model as hi-points web site says "All Hi-Point carbines are +P rated to accept all factory ammunition".
Last year in an even more complex deal involving performing a wedding I traded the old style 9mm hi-point for the new style one with rails and flip down fore grip. My old spare mags fit the new version just fine so I wasn't really put out as I can always pick up a laser later on, as well as a scope
. I also learned that hi-point makes the same carbine in a 45cal model, which I should have held out for in hindsight as then I would have had an excuse to pick up a 1911 as sharing ammo between weapons is always a good idea and I don't have a 9mm pistol either.
My only complaint with the hi-point 9mm is the sling that came with the gun as it's a bit short for me and I swear it should be mounted to the left side of the gun, not the right. Not sure if it can be swapped to the other side as I don't have the manual. Anybody know?

"How do you like that funky spring loaded stock?"
It is kinda funky, but with as little recoil as the 9mm has I thought it was kinda overkill. Probably would make a noticeable difference with the 45 cal version but I have yet to fire one of those so I don't know. I might experiment zip tying it tight the next time I go shooting to see if it makes any difference with the 9mm.
