Carry in NC?

I plan to go to nc this weekend coming up with a friend. My friend's sister inlaw's parents live out there and we plan on goin out there to shoot a little. My question is since I only read about o/c in va, does ne1 know what is the law for nc or what I have to do to travel safely and lawfully to nc? I don't have a va chp permit yet. So plz inform me nething I need to know and be aware of in the state of nc. Thanks

I work in NC and depending on the area you are going it could become a nightmare. Most rural cops could care less if you carry but when you get into places like Wake Forest look out. Just remember if you are stopped in NC you have to tell the police you are carrying. I had a bad experience in Wake Forest a few years ago but firearms weren't involved. Given the police attitude that day they were looking for someone to mess with.

As with any laws relating to firearms it is your responsibility to know applicable state and federal laws, the best any non-lawyer can do is point you to relevant info and let you decide. VBased on Vahunter's response, it seems that the best thing may be to pack it away in the trunk while in NC.

I talked to his brother which is from here(va) told me his wife from nc told him that as long as the gun is in its case(in the trunk) and the ammo and mags are up front away from the gun I should be alright. "Should be" sound like a possibility for jail.. I looked it up but all I found was laws for residents no visitor. I don't want to be pulled by a cop that had a bad day to take my first and only pistol and spend time in the clink. I tried the website that were suggested but my phone(the only source of the net) is being dumb and won't open it. But I still got a week so ill keep searchin. Your Virginia conceal permit is good in NC. Like I said before just remember to tell any cop you have contact with that you are packing. Even if you just ask one for directions. That last line came from a NC State Trooper. Iv'e quized a few deputies and officers down there and most do not know the laws. When I asked a trooper about carrying he reply was "In the area you are working in I'd highy reccomend it, plus it's legal."

Thankd..I don't have a va chp but I will inform the leo that I'm packin and the case its goin to be in says "firearm inside"..I'm workin on takin a class at greentop..tryin to register wed...waitin for a call back
