Background check 2 days and waiting
Background check 2 days and waiting
I visited my local shop on Tuesday to purchase a handgun and was told that they needed to contact another jurisdiction. I still don't have an answer and have been asked to check back tomorrow. I have purchased 3 others in the past an never an issue plus I have a clean record. what could be the hold up? HELP
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
do you have a common-ish name? that can cause delays requiring further research.

Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
not a common name and I even gave them my SSN
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
may be just a false hit then. or maybe they're just having system issues. did your ffl call the transaction center for the update or was it an auto-response from the instant check system?
my last purchase was delayed a day because the vsp/nics system was down on earthquake day last week. mid-day the next day i got a call that the approval was in.

Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
Could have been an input error. The only time I've ever gotten delayed, the dealer typed my name in wrong.
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
Are you sure you didn't accidently move to California?
Life....sexually transmitted and 100% fatal.
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
Not sure what the "other jurisdiction" issue means. I'm thinking that your hold-up has to do with some of the complications of the recent weather event that we had. But maybe the gun store needs to make a call, too, to move the process along.

You may have provided your SSN, but did they actually use it?rengle02 wrote:not a common name and I even gave them my SSN

Another jurisdiction? That's a new one on me. Hope it comes through soon.rengle02 wrote:I visited my local shop on Tuesday to purchase a handgun and was told that they needed to contact another jurisdiction. Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
In truth, when I went to pay on my GreenTop layaway, there were a PLETHORA of guns with the "Background Check" form listed on them...
Personally? I think the State Police are playing politics to see how long we'll wait till someone contacts VCDL/GOA/NRA, and raise cane!
Because in a way? It's a back door waiting period!

Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
last time i talked to a greentop sales guy, he said it's all about state budget cuts. or so was the scuttlebutt from "someone" he knew at the vsp ftc. btw... i was in there buying other stuff, no firearms transaction... that day anyway.

Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
one week and I'm still waiting to get this cleared, but because of the holiday I'm getting pushed back some more.
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting

Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
I'm now been told that it should be another 3 or 4 days.
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
nothing other than this still under VSP investigation and they have to wait. they could give me the gun, but if not approved, VSP could come to my house to get it.mk4 wrote:what does your ffl have to say about all this?
I have never had any problems with my other guns when I lived in MD (waiting period was better than this) or in PA which took all of 5 minutes.
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
I have to look at Virginia's stuff more - I know that federally, they seize the gun only if it comes back as a denial.rengle02 wrote:they could give me the gun, but if not approved, VSP could come to my house to get it.
8 days and still waiting
can I get my gun now as it has been over 8 days and no answer yet.
