The new S&W Governor and media marketing
The new S&W Governor and media marketing
Just a little note about the new issue of Combat Handguns that features the new S&W Governor on the cover. If you aren't aware of this gun here's a link:
http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/ ... 7992_image
I find it interesting that the article never once mentions the obvious fact that this gun is a reaction to the hugely popular Taurus Judge.
I mean this gun takes 3 different loads...(our amp goes to eleven!).
The article reads like a press release, so it seems clear that there's some payola happening. I mean how can you not even mention the Judge (ours is the Governor!, what's next the Emperor?)
It does look like a cool gun though!
Just remain skeptical no matter what media you are reading/watching/listening to. Everyone has an agenda...

Next is the S&W Dictator. It will only be available to the federal government. They will own them so that you don't have to!
Re: The new S&W Governor and media marketing
The next gun will be called the "politician" It won't work and you can't fire it.
Life....sexually transmitted and 100% fatal.

Welcome to gunwriting. It's just ad copy with more text and fewer pictures.
Re: The new S&W Governor and media marketing
At least it's not a Taurus!
I know people who love them but I have bought two and could never get either to work right. I really don't want either pistol but would buy the S&W first.... if it didn't have that stupid lock.

There should be a drinking game based on these silly pistols. Every time someone says "they are good for shooting snakes" they should be forced to drink a Shirley Temple while wearing a feather boa and a dunce cap.

It's about time S&W takes a little back from Taurus.

The hell with that! As a soon to be ex owner of a Judge I can say without a doubt that any gun that is a jack of all trades is most deffinatly a master of none.
Yes they do fire multiple types of bullets but believe me it does neither well. This will be as inaccurate as the judge was (and I had the 6" barrel model).
Shun worthy is all I can say. Since I like yall here I'll recommend you don't buy into these crap weapons, or at least do so knowing what they are.
What they are good for is two things, one being a trail gun good for small critters, the other is a close quarters weapon but with it's weight only if it's drawn already. At a distance greater than 15 yards, if you're a good shot, you're not likey to anything wih any kind of accuracy.

I wouldn't mess with this snake...hatchetman wrote:There should be a drinking game based on these silly pistols. Every time someone says "they are good for shooting snakes" they should be forced to drink a Shirley Temple while wearing a feather boa and a dunce cap.

He may shoot you back with his H&K Double Fists of God (shoots 19 different rounds-all poorly) gun.

But that's about all they are good for.hatchetman wrote:There should be a drinking game based on these silly pistols. Every time someone says "they are good for shooting snakes" they should be forced to drink a Shirley Temple while wearing a feather boa and a dunce cap.

Re: The new S&W Governor and media marketing
The only "Jack of all trades" I have found is the Springfield Armory M6 Scout... two parts separated, and I have taken many a critter at close range with it.
Best money I spent, and found off VGOF! Love that lil' gun!
I'm still not sure why S/A won't release the patent for SOMEONE ELSE to make the gun, considering THEY WON'T make it again! (shrugs)

I don't own a Judge but my nephew does. The Judge does what it says it does. It is good for home defense and will take out snakes (though maybe not Plissken). When I used to hike or do SAR in PA, I'd carry 3 rounds of snake shot and 3 rounds of hot 140gr JHP handloads in my .357. The first three were for their intended use, the last 3 for larger predators like wild dogs, etc. The Judge could fill the same role if one was so inclined.
The beauty of an open market is that there's something for everyone's taste. Neither the Judge nor S&W's imitation Governor are my cup of tea, but Taurus sells a lot of theirs so some folks must find use for them.

But where am I going to get a feather boa?
A guy I work with also serves warrants part time. He bought one, put some #6 shot through it and carries it with him loaded with Winchester PDX-1s. I've already convinced him to come to the range with me and test it on some cataloges for penetration. I wonder if it will change his mind.

Re: The new S&W Governor and media marketing
Funny, I've never heard of a catalog attacking anyone. A face full of Federal PDH with #4 shot can change attitudes, though, and very quickly.
Like I said, these things aren't for everyone, but they do what they say at close quarters.

Re: The new S&W Governor and media marketing
Whatever floats your boat, I guess, though there's not a problem the Judge solves that I don't have a better tool for.
Gun shop I teach out of sells a lot of 'em, but I don't see any of those folks in our pistol classes. My theory is Judge owners think the gun emits a cone of death that mitigates the need for practice or training. Hope they don't ever end up gathering empirical data on that.

Re: The new S&W Governor and media marketing
I have had the Judge for about 5 years now in Barrel Length: 6-1/2 and I have never had a problem with it. Its does everything I need it to do.
