Maxpedition Versipack EDC S-Type

As a preface let it be known that I always carry on body. Recently I bought the Versipack as a solution to taking my daughter fishing through the woods... the tackle box is full and we still need water, lunch, first aid basics, bug repellant, hefty Benchmade, and other minimal survival items for good form.

My nondominant hand has the rods and tackle box, dominant hand is either ready to draw or ready to help my child over a fallen tree.

Didn't want a backpack because I don't have that much stuff to carry, just something to handle the overflow for a day of fishing.

Now I even put another gun in the Versipack gun pocket using the manufacturer's holster that mates with the internal Velcro, along with a similar mag pouch for this gun. It's really nice especially in the summer to have the second gun at hand but not hanging on body. Moreover, my second gun can be another full size gun instead of a J-frame or Kahr.

So it works for all autos up to Glock 20/21 size (probably could accomodate the long slide Glock). Manufacturer's internal holster does NOT accomodate full size revolvers such as the S&W 686- too much size between top (rear sight leaf) and the bottom of the trigger guard. Too bad because this is a badass piece. But there are likely sources for an accomodating, Velcro-backed holsters for a wheelgun.

When I sling this (khaki) thing on I really feel like a "tourist", rather than an obvious "off body toter". Especially if there's no Velcro emblems attached. Looks just like something you might imagine Clark Griswold taking on vacation, except it's great for carrying your gun. But don't let that be your primary motive: if you don't need to carry a bunch of stuff such as I described, don't buy it primarily for a gun carry method.

I've looked at the different versions of the versipack online. It is the ultimate man-bag, and a good alternative to a backpack. I've considered one for myself for tromping in the woods, walking "downtown" in small towns on the weekend (we like the touristy sections), and for park/trail hikes with the kids. I can do "tourist". Like you, I carry close, but a back-up in the bag would be a plus. Haven't made the plunge, but maybe I need to look at them again.

Yep, I have the Jumbo Versipack. I use it daily to carry my PT gear in the main compartment when I head to base. NOt allowed to have my sidearm though on base

Cell-Phone is in one of the smaller pockets, a nice stainless steel 32 oz water bottle opposite. Glasses on top flap.

I also have a matching khaki Mini Pocket Organizer in the larger zip pocket just under the flap. The mini contains an extra pen-flashlight, multi-tool, spare bits, small medical scissor, hemostats, and other 'survival' type items I can take with me anywhere, including para-cord, plastic poncho, space blanket, writing paper.

When not on base, I then empty the main compartment and use it for storing items when I pick up prescriptions for example, go shopping or tool around. I carry my Beretta Storm Sub Compact or my Para P10-45 in the hidden compartment.

In the loops just under the key holder, I have an CRKT M21- Knife (BIG Knife!), I also keep a pen flashlight and tactical pen in the loops outside as well.

This is a real MAN BAG!

I chose Khaki and Foliage so it did not look like a real tactical item.


I also have a Khaki tactical operator briefcase too. I added a single knife sheath on the shoulder strap that has my leatherman wave in it.

When I use this I move my mini pocket organizer into the 5x7 pocket on the left. I have a number of survival items, maps, etc.. I keep power/ food bars in the horizontal compartment on the right. Medicines, lens cleaners, compass, strobe light in the 2 smaller upper compartments.

I also have a water filtration straw, I keep leather gloves and a watch cap (I am folically challenged). Of course charger for my laptop and cellphone, and space blanket, plastic poncho. In the smaller pocket which can hold another water bottle I keep my 2-way aviation radio. Other items, GPS, cell phone...

Cool bags guys, I have thought about doing something similar but I am prone to setting things down and leaving them. When I get a vehicle I plan to basically turn that into my EDC bag with a drawer system of some kind.

I am a certified bag Whore! I guess this is where I would have made a good woman with pocketbooks!

I have many other types of bags, and sometimes I just can't resist buying them. I see a bag I like and then make what I think is a purpose to buy it!

Jeez... straight guy who loves man bags....

I use the "briefcase" as my range bag. Carries all my cleaning gear tools very nicely as well as eyes, ears & ammo.

Well built beast too!

I have a cheap Cadwell(I think) range bag. It's real handy. More handy than I thought it would be. I had used a backpack up until I got a real range bag. Range bags beat backpacks any day IMO.
