Kimber Compact CDP II

Post by TBob »

Took my new baby out to the NRA National HQ range last night with a friend:

I wanted to start breaking it in. I used Prvi Partisan 230 gr. FMJ .45ACP rounds for the initial break-in. This was my first experience with the Serbian ammo, and I was pleased with the results. I finished up with ICC 155 gr. HP frangibles to ensure that the pistol would properly handle my carry ammo.

I fired about 150 rounds total, mostly at 15 yards but finishing at 10 yards.

The Kimber Compact CDP II performed perfectly--no malfunctions of any kind. Accuracy was also excellent, with overlapping holes when I did my part. The Compact shot to point of aim with its fixed night sights.

The 30 lpi front-strap checkering enabled quicker follow-up shots than my Ultra Carry's smooth grip front. I thought that the aggressively checkered wood grip panels would be hard on my hands, but they didn't cause any problems. Shooting the Compact proved very comfortable and controllable. The trigger pull felt on the higher side of the 4 - 4.5 lb spec.

Everything cleaned up nicely with Gunzilla, which also protects the metal. I then lubed it up with Otis Special Forces Dry Lube, which dries quickly and so doesn't leave spots on your cover clothing.

The Compact CDP II will be my new carry piece. Its perfect function provides the confidence necessary for a self-defense firearm. It puts teeth into the wisdom that: "A 9mm is a .45ACP set to stun."

I sure do like those Kimbers. The CDP II has to be one of my favorites - even though I've never owned or shot one. It's just so pretty, it has to shoot good :)

Nice one!

Great looking guns! Love the grips!

I've wanted one a CDP for a long time and am delighted to finally have one. The grips are very "grippy", something I didn't expect from wood, and they do look great against the black KimPro finish on the frame.
