02/10/11 - Sussex County Update / Action item

Post by allingeneral »

VCDL's meeting schedule: http://www.vcdl.org/meetings.html------ ... reviations used in VA-ALERT: http://www.vcdl.org/help/abbr.html----- ... ----------

1. Sussex County moves date to consider range restrictions2. Notify PDs of Federal Ammo recall3. ACTION ITEM: Emails to BATFE needed immediately!

**************************************************************1. Sussex County moves date to consider range restrictions**************************************************************

I have just learned that the Sussex County Board of Supervisors will NOT hear the proposed ordinance to restrict shooting ranges on February 17th. The ordinance WILL be coming up on March 17th at 7 PM, so if you live in the general area, mark your calendars so we can show up in force!

**************************************************************2. Notify PDs of Federal Ammo recall**************************************************************

A member suggested to me that we notify our local police and sheriff's departments of the Federal .45 ACP ammo recall. I have notified Richmond, Chesterfield and Colonial Heights. Dan Brooks has contacted Fairfax County, Herndon, and the Loudoun Sheriff's Departments.

Remember, if they don't carry .45 ACP rounds then their department won't be affected.

Also, Jim Pond pointed out to me that for Value Packs or bulk packs of ammo, the lot number is on the INSIDE of the box.

**************************************************************3. ACTION ITEM: Emails to BATFE needed immediately!**************************************************************

As you recall from a previous alert, BATFE is looking to register semi-automatic rifles using the excuse of stopping guns flowing to Mexico.

Let's send a quick email to OMB and BATFE OPPOSING this scheme. You must do this before the end of the day on February 14th (Monday).

Email addresses (send to oira and cc Barbara Terrel):

oira_submission*omb.eop.govBarbara.Terrell*atf.gov

Proposed Subject:

Please OPPOSE the BATFE's proposal to report multiple sale of certain rifles

Proposed Message:

Please OPPOSE the ''Notice of Information Collection Under Review: Report of Multiple Sale or Other Disposition of Certain Rifles.''

This is an unnecessary regulation and is not allowed under Federal law. Title 18 U.S.C. =A7 923(g)(3)(A) does not grant any such registration of multiple purchases of firearms, except for handguns.

The regulation contains no provision for the destruction of the collected information, and therefore is not legal under Title 18 U.S.C. =A7 926(a).

Laws do matter and this unnecessary and extra-legal proposal must NOT be approved.

Sincerely,

[NAME][ADDRESS]
