Choke Question
Choke Question
I bought a Remington 870 Express Super Mag. It has a modified screw in choke. Is there ammo that I cant shot through that choke? Like slugs or any others? If I want to shot slugs and this wont handle it what do I need to do to be able to shot slugs.
Re: Choke Question
most local gun stores can help you find a solution for your wishes. You just need a choke wrench and a suitable replacement choke to install in the gun, I think the one you want will be a cylinder or improved cylinder. The cost shouldn't be very expensive around $20-40 for chokes and around $10 for a choke wrench. If you want to go a more accurate (and expensive) route you can get a rifled barrel to swap onto the gun for around $150. here is a little info from Remington: http://www.remingtoncountrystore.com/Pa ... choke+tube
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?
Re: Choke Question
not to hijack the thread or anything, but seems waste-full to start a new one. I have an unmodified maverick by mossberg 12ga. I have fired much buckshot and a dozen or so sabot from it but... should I be firing sabot from it? It didn't blow up or anything and it kicked like a mule but I assume 12ga sabot's always kick like a mule. I know a rifled barrel is much more accurate but can I assume that if it didn't blow up yet it is ok to shoot sabot's from it?

Re: Choke Question
Would the rifled flush choke work as well.
Re: Choke Question
If you get a rifled choke, shoot sabot slugs. If you have a smooth-walled improved cyl. choke, shoot rifled slugs.
Sabot slugs from a smooth-walled barrel will likely result in lower accuracy than a rifled slug, but at shorter distances they should be fine. With the opposite, I think that a rifled slug through a rifled choke would cause some leading/fouling issues in the choke.
Best solution - buy a fully rifled barrel and shoot sabot slugs.
