Glock Extended Magazine Release
So I'm looking to get an extended magazine release button for my G19. Trouble is, there's a lot of options out there! All the way from Top Glocks which goes for $45, to Vickers Tactical which goes for $16. I was wondering if any other Glock owners could help me out.
Re: Glock Extended Magazine Release
I am not a Glock owner, but you really can't go wrong with something designed by Larry Vickers.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

Rule of thumb is stick with factory parts if possible; Vickers does make good stuff albeit pricey... how fancy does it have to be to do the same job?

Let's ask this first - What is wrong with the part already installed on the gun?

I'd guess that like a lot of people he has to shift his grip to get the stock mag release to work. I haven't used any of them, but the part is pretty simple.ProShooter wrote:Let's ask this first - What is wrong with the part already installed on the gun?

This. The stock magazine release is too short, so I either have to shift my grip or use my non-firing hand to hit it. Neither of which are big issues, but if a small part can make it so I don't have to, that'd be great.gunderwood wrote:I'd guess that like a lot of people he has to shift his grip to get the stock mag release to work. Well, that begs the question, why are you using that part to release the slide?Drewsifer wrote:This. The slide lock or stop lever is designed for just that - locking the slide back manually or stopping the slide after firing the last round. It is not meant to release the slide and its a bad habit that I try to break students of. You should really be pulling the slide back to its full amount of rearward travel and slingshotting it forward.

He is talking about the magazine release. Not the Slide lock. Two separate components. And he is right, the standard Glock Magazine release is set in a slight awkward position/size depending on your hand size. A slightly larger one could be really advantageous depending on what you do with your Glock. It is something I have often pondered about modifying in my own Glock 19. The problem I have seen with some is that if you make it too big, you can potentially hit the release and drop your magazine in the middle of firing the weapon. So you have to be really conscious of your grip, something you should already be doing, but some people do not. I think that is the reason that Glock made it that size in that location, is so that for people that do not pay as much attention to their grip as they should, do not accidentally drop the magazine and blame Glock for a poor design.

One of the things Glock got right with their Gen 4 models is a larger mag release button. I have a Gen 2 and a Gen 4 Glock 19. My reloads with the Gen 4 are a quarter second faster.

The Glocks are fairly streamlined too. A large mag release could cause drawing/holstering and/or accidental activation. I'm sure a larger one would be faster and easier, but there is such a thing as too large IMHO.totes6 wrote:The problem I have seen with some is that if you make it too big, you can potentially hit the release and drop your magazine in the middle of firing the weapon.

Re: Glock Extended Magazine Release
I have a glock 22c that I had the extended magazine release put on and absolutely love it. It's not that noticeable at first, but when you drop about fifty mags with that much ease you'll love it too. I would advise sticking to glock products only because everything on my glock is factory parts. I have the ex. mag release, slide release, trigger down to 2.2lbs and night sites. You can't beat a glock with all glock accessories, no worry about voiding any warranties either.

Re: Glock Extended Magazine Release
Yeah, I put an extended release on my mom's 26. That thing is huge. I don't like handling it, much less shooting it, because it's so damn big (and sharp). But she seems to like it. I would change it out for something smaller if she ever actually carried it though, because it would definitely interfere with a draw, and probably activate unintentionally.gunderwood wrote:I'm sure a larger one would be faster and easier, but there is such a thing as too large IMHO.
Re: Glock Extended Magazine Release
After I changed over to the extended release, I couldn't understand why Glock doesn't put that part on standard. Then the next Glock I got just irritated the hell out of me, reloading with a timer running. IMHO, the extended just gives much better release since the shooter doesn't have to mush it all the way flush to the frame.

Re: Glock Extended Magazine Release
I have the extended glock one and the Larry Vickers one.
The factory one is too long and sharp. The Larry Vickers on seams just right. Just a little rounded, smooth and not too long. I prefer the Vickers one.
