IDPA in the Staunton area

I am pretty new to handgun ownership in general. I was looking around the internet yesterday and came across an IDPA page somewhere. This really sounds like fun and good practice. Unless I misunderstood, a newb like me can participate in these matches. Can anyone confirm this and where in my area can I participate if that is the case?
