Can I bring my gun to a gun show?
I live in VA and tomorrow there is a gun show in VA Beach. I do not have a CCW. I would like to bring it to see about getting a holster and trying the gun in it etc.
Is this allowed?
Is this allowed?

Yes, but not loaded. Here are the rules from those running the gun show:

Also don't be shocked with there is a police officer at the door that wants to personally check it. You should be OK though, have a great time!

Any time you go to a shop to try out holsters, you would want to have the gun unloaded and cased to do so (and have store employees verify it's clear). Most gun shows require all firearms are safety checked and tied/secured anyway. Just make sure they secure it in such a way that it can be holstered (it can help to zip-tie it yourself before arrival).

Yes you can. And, as the earlier people mentioned, see the link above.
Then, when you get your holster, you can carry it too (unloaded and unconcealed, of course).
Even though I do it at every gun show, it's kind of still funny to see people OC'ing with no magazine.

How the hell can anyone have a great time by zip typing the action on their weapon and being treated like a criminal by LE?Jakeiscrazy wrote:Also don't be shocked with there is a police officer at the door that wants to personally check it. You should be OK though, have a great time!

I've always felt that toting an unloaded zip tied gun is akin to carrying an empty suitcase..Can't do a damn thing with it except maybe throw it at someone... I leave mine in the truck or at home. Granted I don;t like doing that but it makes the most sense to me when at a show

How do you try it in a holster if you left it at home or in your truck?
That was the OP's question, not how you personally feel about carrying a zip-tied weapon.....

Just got back. Ya they zip tied it. I left my mag in the car. Just as well cause i saw the LEO bagging mags at the table. I was really hoping to find a GALCO Fletch TAN holster for the Glock 19 but not 1 table even carried ANY GALCO products.

The gun show parking lot is a great place to go gun shopping if you're a thief.
Hence zip-tied OC at gun shows.

I dont thats the reason they want to zip tie every gun...they treat every gun owner like a moron. Unfortunately some are and that ruins it for everybody.t33j wrote:The gun show parking lot is a great place to go gun shopping if you're a thief.

It only takes one moron to ruin it for everybody.zephyp wrote:Unfortunately some are and that ruins it for everybody.
If you have ever been to a gun show and had your spider sense tingle... it is likely because you are being painted from across the room and do not even know it.
Keep your magazine separate, tie your own mag-well and carry a snips or quik-lock knife. If you need it, snip, click, rack. Done.

Last week I was at a show and as I turn around Im staring down the barrel of a shotgun -- I kinda like the warm feeling I get by knowing the shotgun [or any weapon thats going to get pointed around ]is tied so it cant be loaded. and had been checked prior to coming into the show..
Years ago I was a gun show dealer --I actually had a guy hand me a gun that had a round it it --OOPs his kid must have taken it out before he grabbed it To bring to the show --[Yeea right ]
Occasionally gun shows have a negligent discharge-sometimes no harm -sometimes someone is hurt--The Anti gunners love to dance in the blood of gun righties who get shot !!!!

Re: Can I bring my gun to a gun show?
@Randy - I'm with ya on that and shame on the morons and shame on others who dont smack them in the back of their stupid heads.
Gun shows are events where I like to play devil's advocate. As gun owners we shun businesses that do not allow guns yet we line up by the hundreds, pay a fee, have our weapons disabled and submit to a questionable "check" by LE. All just to see if there are any "deals."
Dont know about ya'll but paying to be disarmed is not a deal for me. As an added bonus you stand in line for a long time and discover all the deals gone by the time you get through security.
Better deals to be had on the Internet. Although I do sometimes stand in line cause I share this computer with my sweet beautiful wife...

Just to throw some gasoline on the fire...
I think the fact that people assume that every gun at a gun show it unloaded makes them handle firearms in an unsafe manner. It's the age old catch-22, accidents happen because people assume that all guns are unloaded (per the insurers requirements) and they are handling them poorly or accidents happen because of a few idiots.

Were there any custom leather folks there. I plan on going to the Hampton show put on by the same promoter in 2 weeks and I'm looking to have a holster made for my Glock 30. Am I wasting my time? I didn't go to todays show because today is Daytona 500 day.

Well I have yet to see a great deal at these shows so I don't go. Also I can't carry, so I don't have to worry about that for a few years.zephyp wrote:How the hell can anyone have a great time by zip typing the action on their weapon and being treated like a criminal by LE?Jakeiscrazy wrote:Also don't be shocked with there is a police officer at the door that wants to personally check it.
