Nearby no-join gun ranges?

Post by Dreamcast270mhz »

So I am based in white stone VA and our local range happens to be a gun club owned. I do not wish to join a club to just use a range or the NRA by extension, I could care less about anything they do. So, is there an indoor or outdoor range where I can just bring my Mosin and shoot? Without all the strings of a gun club?

Your best bet is to find a landowner that's willing to let you shoot. I didn't even know whitestone had a gunclub.

Wow, you're kinda stuck out there. The closest thing that I am aware of is the range at Phelps WMA. Probably about 90 minutes for you. Outdoor, 100 yards and a decent place. Long guns only and seasonal...

What is the rational for the NRA membership requirement? The private range near me has a similar requirement.

I just want to shoot my gun, I wish nothing to do with the NRA or any gun club for that matter. Without delving into my political beliefs, I don't care about what goes on in our gov't because it is a pointless mess of bloodsucking liars, and I do not forgive the NRA for the class III ban of '86

A lot of ranges have that requirement as when you join the NRA you get accident insurance. It isn't a lot, but it is some. There may nor may not be a political connection as well.

Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club has that requirement, too. I had asked about this previously, and apparently if everyone's an NRA member, it also lowers the club's insurance costs, otherwise it'd be prohibitively expensive.
