Ideal pistol and holster for this style of dress

When I wear a dress shirt tucked in (I only wear jackets to funerals and weddings) like the above example I see no real conceivable way to carry on the waist except an ankle holster, which means a very small pistol. What would be a good reliable pistol to ankle holster?

In theory I could use a shoulder holster under the dress shirt, but pausing to unbutton (or pull a Hulk and tear open) the shirt to get a t my pistol doesn't seem practical.

There are many small reliable pistols in various calibers. I suggest you head to the gun store and browse. The best place to start looking would be in the 9mm department. Also, remember when buying an ankle holster that the "handedness" refers to the hand you use to draw. That is a right hand ankle holster goes on your left ankle with the pistol on the inside. You should also investigate pocket holsters. Pro for ankle holster (compared to pocket) is a bigger gun, con is they might bounce around if you run. I saw some decent small 9mms at Sharpshooters the other day. The also have some ankle holsters you could probably try out.

I just ordered a pocket holster for a Glock 26 -- 9mm. I'll post up once I've checked it out. I suspect it might be ok with jeans if you're just out and about. Not sure about dockers.

Ideal pistol? Anything smaller than a full sized 1911 will work with the right holster.

The key is the right holster. You need a In the Waist Band (IWB) holster, but also one that allows your shirt to be tucked in. That slightly harder, but there are lots of good models which allow just that.

Deep concealment, although it requires the Galco belt to function properly. It is IWB, allows the shirt to tuck in (there is a gap between the leather an the plastic attachment piece to allow this), and it doesn't leave any belt loops to indicate you are carrying a gun either. Unfortunately, they only make the plastic piece in black, so it will be more visible on light colored pants/belts.

A Crossbreed Supertuck with a Kimber Tactical Ultra II works quite nicely with slacks and shirt. The type of pistol is not as important as the holster. Find a pistol you shoot well, are comfortable with, and feel confident in CC, then find a good holster for it.

An alternate to the CB/Kimber that I really like is my Ruger LCP with a pocket holster. I have no problems CCing a .380

Nothing at all. The implication of the OP was that something like a pocket pistol was needed to CC with business casual which is why the replies focused on the larger options. I.e. showing that even full sized guns are easily concealed.

In my experience, tucked in dress shirts are very easy to conceal with.

I have a S&W J-frame Airweight .38spl (model 642) that I carry in a pocket holster when dressed like that. Never tried ankle carry, but I suppose it's light and small enough.

Fantastic info, you guys rock. Truth be told I never heard of a pocket holster (I do come from New York where concealed carry is punishable by death), but sure as hell will look into them. The above tuck holster seems worth looking into as well.

I just got my pocket holster for a Glock 26...Galco Pocket Protector...Bottom line is it appears useless for tight fitting britches such as jeans. Back pocket maybe but definitely not the front. Could be decent for dockers, casual business attire, or dress pants in front or back. Not sure yet how I'm going to use it but will post more as I discover its utility or lack thereof...my guess is trying to draw from any pocket not firmly and completely sewn down on the trouser leg or butt will be a serious challenge...

I only have a pocket holster for much smaller pistols like my Ruger LCP. The G26 and similar sub-compacts are just too thick to hide in a pants pocket IMHO. A winter coat pocket sure, but not pants.

A winter coat pocket is a drop in ready made holster. Makes for easy access if its the right kind.

I have a pocket holster for S&W J-frame. Works pretty good with looser pleated dress slacks and my mountain biking shorts. Tighter jeans are not as good unless you don't mind the lump. A little difficult to extract though, although in the great outdoors, you can leave the butt sticking out for easier access. Look into the slacks you want to use them with, the holsters typically come in round bottom, or square bottom, and affect how they carry. Mine came from Sideguard.

My pocket holster (BlackHawk) is made of material that is somewhat "grabby" on the outside and also has a strip sewn around it that has a bit more grab, so it kinda sticks inside your pocket when you pull the gun out. Although I have pulled my pocket inside out with smaller pockets.

You might want to check out Raven Concealment Holsters as well. I have a Phantom Light Compatible Holster for a Glock 23 with a mounted Insight XTI Procyon. Tuckable hooks allow for VERY good concealment... just make sure your pant belt size and belt are sized appropriately.

As others have mentioned, the best way to find out is to try... unfortunately, this usually results in a drawer full of un-used holsters. For tuckable holsters, I've tried carrying @ 4 oclock with crossbreed and comptac. What I've actually discovered is that the best for me is carrying appendix IWB.
