Nasty Weather

Post by OakRidgeStars »

We've had one storm after another roll through the area today. My remote rain gauge says that we just had two inches of rain fall in the past two hours. I think it's time to gather the animals and head for the ark :shipwrecked:

It has been rather wet.
Supposedly flood warnings will come if we get any more rain.

I used the "excessive" rain as an excuse to leave work early.

Lot of rain here in Campbell County, Whipping Creek is up to the top and the Staunton River is way up. My place is like a swamp, lucky we didn't get the high winds. I just got the roads cleaned up from the winter storms, it's a never ending job.

I drove back from Dayton OH Tuesday evening and was treated to the most spectacular lightning show I've ever seen. Lasted for several hours. It was quite a drive though with torrential rain most of the way.

We had A LOT of lightning this week. Two nights in a row, I was out on the porch watching the storm roll through, and it chased me inside with a lightning strike within several hundred feet of me. When there's less than a second between the flash and the bang, it's time for me to move inside!

I was a little concerned when I left Dayton. It started hailing penny sized stones as soon as I got in the car which lasted for about 20 minutes while I sat there waiting for it to stop. I'm lucky my car wasn't dinged. The drive was grueling mainly due to me trying to watch the lightning and see the road at the same time. Sorry to say I did not have a camera along
