So, this weekend is the Chantilly Fun Show. My son, a few buddies and I will be there (he'll be shopping, I'll just be looking). Both of us have our CHP. Why is that CHP not enough to bypass the on-site background check to purchase a firearms (excuding class III and other NFA items)? Let's say just 10% of the firearms purchasers at the show are CHP holders, how much of a burdon would that take off the system for the three days of the show?
Or, waht about a simple immedaite check to make certain the CHP has not been revoked?
Wondering out loud.
Why another background check?

Re: Why another background check?
That's actually been brought up before the VA State Police, and they gave come cock-a-mamy reason why it doesn't hold up... I half heartedly listened because it was the Anti-Gun Va Trooper in Charge.
(shrugs) I'm with you on this one though.

Re: Why another background check?
I agree with not having to submit to another background check if your CHP is in order, And if not for a handgun at least for a rifle or a shotgun...That's my opine and I'm sure others agree as some do not.. I also don;t agree with certain events happening in another state counting against a person here, Last year VA Senator Lucas (Jackass from Newport News ) decided that if an individual got a DUI in another state that it should interfere with them getting a CHP here in the form of SB501... Funny how it wasn't needed all the years prior to then,,,,, The antis got it passed and I am real curious to see what they try to piggyback on it this year,,,, Speeding. Jaywalking, Broken tailight??? The Senate here in VA is a challenge to us as it is still in the hands of the Dems who seem to take pleasure in denying gun bills by creating illegal panels to keep them from ever getting a fair vote on the floor . Last year several good bills were killed by that hit squad that didn;t even hav ehte courtesy to be in the room when they were killed ,they left their damn proxy and hung out at the coffee machine ,,,,,, This year is another shot at getting some passed and others killed and hopefully we do well....

I seem to recall a story about a guy with a permit who purchased a firearm while under a domestic violence charge. The cops forgot to pull his permit.

Isn't it amazing that those state legislators were from districts that have the highest crime rates in the state? I guess they just don't want you to be able to protect yourself from their constituents who put them in office.

Re: Why another background check?
The fact that they're in high crime areas is what presses them. Generally speaking, high crime rate areas are full of lower income, lower intelligence types of people who want to rely on government to take care of them since they can't seem to pull their lives out of the gutters on their own. Therefore, these areas elect democrats, who, stereotypically hand out government funds in exchange for curtailing the rights of their citizens. After all, why do these people need rights if they're living off of the government? And moreover - who cares about rights when these types of citizens are going to do what they want to do regardless of legalities anyway!mikef54 wrote:Isn't it amazing that those state legislators were from districts that have the highest crime rates in the state? It's a whole different mindset than our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness view of the world.
Re: Why another background check?
For whatever reason Virginia's carry permit does not qualify for exemption from the federal background check. Since we have the state forms it wouldn't matter even if we were exempt from the fed check.

OK, I thought maybe there was something missing in my logic, but evidently not. Thanks all! See you in Chantilly on Saturday!
