So I recently moved here from AZ and didn't have time to engrave my form 1 SBR in AZ before I left. I don't have a short barreled upper for it yet, so I'm not in violation, bt I'm wondering if you guys know of a good engraver in thearea so I can get my name, city and state put on the lower before my short barrel uppers arrive.
Thanks
Eric

If you didn't make it before leaving Arizona, you will need to void the previous application and submit a new one.

The form 1 was approved and I immediately did the interstate transport paperwork, which got approed before I moved the lower ot of state. I've yet to buy/possess an upper with a barrel shorter than 16in, so wouldn't I just need an engraver to finish the legal bit before I buy a short upper.Diomed wrote:If you didn't make it before leaving Arizona, you will need to void the previous application and submit a new one.
Should have known you would be on this site...answering my questions on 2 forums now:)
Thanks a bunch

If the firearm has not been assembled into a short barreled rifle, it's not yet an NFA firearm. It's just a receiver. In submitting the registration, you were swearing that you would make the firearm in the jurisdiction indicated on the form. For purposes of compliance with the NFA, your options would be to go back to AZ and make the firearm there, or cancel the first registration and submit a new one specifying where in VA you'd be making it.towerofpower93 wrote:The form 1 was approved and I immediately did the interstate transport paperwork, which got approed before I moved the lower ot of state. Obviously the easiest thing to do is just say you made it in AZ and put it together here, though that would of course be a violation and it's usually a good idea not to tell the internets when that happens.

Well in that case, I'm not sure who engraves up there. I usually just send it out to Orion.

You could ask Clay Spencer. He does threading work, he may do engraving or know who does locally.

Went to Hightech signs today to talk to them about it and ended up getting it done. Looked at some of their past work, was invited to see the equipment and only charged 48 to get 2 engraved. Guy was honest and very approachable, answered all questions before anything got put in the machine and a generally good company to work with. I explained why I wouldn't be able to leave the receivers there and they dropped what they were doing to get them done right then and there. I'd recommend them to others needing engraving work done. A little black paint on my end and it was 90 minutes from the time I walked in until I was finshed painting the lettering back to flat black.
