Silencers legal?

Has the above referenced statute been repealed? When I go to that particular listing, it shows that it has.

Hmm...well, any legal silencer has to be registered under the Federal Class III rules, so having an unregistered one is verboten anyway.

The NFA requires all suppressors to be registered, so by definition all legal NFA suppressors are legal to own in VA.

The best way to look at the question in my opinion, based on current Virginia law, is that being in possession of a silencer is illegal in those situations in which being in possession of a firearm is illegal. So, don't have one if you're an illegal immigrant, been subjected to involuntary treatment for insanity, or a convicted felon, and don't carry one into the courthouse with you.

Last time I searched the COV, the only reference I came up with regarding silencers was prohibiting them from courthouses. Other than that, Virginia does not recognize them as being anything, legally speaking.

The state police have directed that they not be recorded on the SP-65 and should not be called in to the background check office. (I think the latter is improper under certain circumstances, but that is neither here nor there.)

This is, of course, very different from everything else NFA, which the state treats as either firearms (AOWs, DDs), dangerous firearms (SBRs, SBSs), really really dangerous firearms (MGs), or OMGWTFBBQ!!1!one!! WE'S ALLS GONNA DIE!!1! (Streetsweepers, et al.).
