Finally got a chance to get some quiet time on a range. The SSNG was great, but I didn't get the practice I know I need! So I headed over to the U.S Training and Development Center. Nice clean facility, and the gentlemen who worked there was very helpful. Since it was my first time had to sign a form, and get the quick run down on how things worked there. Probably took 10 minutes total. I don't know if there's normally a limit on time, but I shot for about and hour and half for $12.00 (paid in advance). I really liked it, and will probably be getting a membership soon.

But on to how I did! This was only my second time shooting my now used Rock Island Armory Compact 1911. I was excited to see what it (and I) could do. All targets where at 10 yards.



First target. I think I wasn't hold it level, so I was actually aiming down at an angle.



I was trying different things on this one, seeing if I could figure out what I was doing wrong.



I started getting a feel for things here. I still had some fly aways, but I felt like I had a good grasp on what I needed to do to get holes where I wanted them.





Second to last target I shot. I always do poorly on these targets, because I think I'm thinking to much.



Last target of the day. Only 5 shots. The fifth shot is just to the right of the lower most shot that was in the rings. Scanner must have covered it back up.

Had a good day too. Had some feeding issues that went away as everything got a little broken in. However I did keep having one issue. After firing a shot, the slide wouldn't go all the way foward again, stopping maybe an 1/8th of an inch short. Just enough so I couldn't fire. A gentle tap, or push on the slide usually fixed it. However some times it wouldn't, so I just eject the round and go on.

It could be a weak recoil spring, insufficient lube or something is fitting to tight. Try this:

1. Unload gun.
2. Hold the gun vertical (pointing toward the ceiling).
3. Draw the slide back < 1/4" (just enough to take it completely out of battery).
4. Release (the gun is still vertical right?).

If the gun is slow to lock up (or doesn't completely go into battery) that usually is a sign of a worn out or weak recoil spring. Of course check the function to make sure nothing it binding and make sure you have lubed everything properly.

From viewing your targets, I'd say that you are milking the gun and jerking the trigger way too much. I would highly suggest an hour or two with an instructor who can correct the issues for you.

Many pistol manufactures say their pistols have break in periods. How many rounds do you have thru it?

I have an idea that you are looking over the sight's just as the shot break's to see where you hit. In other words you are not following through with the shot. Next time try and make sure that you still keep your eye on the sight picture as the weapon fires.

Uh, probably less than 200 rounds at this point. Maybe a little more.
