Revolvers and Semi-autos
Alright, this argument has been raging on since the introduction of the semi-automatic pistol in 1894 [Wikipedia]. Do you prefer a semi-auto or a revolver when you're carrying?
There are Pros and Cons to each type of handgun. The Semi-auto is capable of holding more rounds, can be reloaded easier if you have a clip at the ready and has a thinner profile. Cons for the Semi-auto include possibility of jamming, larger number of moving parts (thus higher chance of something failing).
So, likewise, the pros of the semi-auto are the cons of the revolver and the cons are the pros.
Revolvers don't jam and they have less moving parts, but they are also tougher to load quickly, have a slightly larger profile and are generally able to hold only 5 or 6 rounds at a time.
So, what is your preference? Vote in the poll!

Re: Revolvers and Semi-autos
I agree that a wheelgun is more reliable than a semiauto but there is just something about 13+1 rounds that my XD45 holds.
Re: Revolvers and Semi-autos
I am the weird one I carry both on a regular bases. The revolver is lighter and sometimes clothing or situation dictates a lighter gun. I do probably carry my semi more I feel I can conceal it easier and it does not print as bad and it works better with my work clothes. In a self defense situation the capacity on either serve me fine.

Jay, I hear ya. The old adage if you need one you probably need two has served me very well over the years. Details not needed.

Re: Revolvers and Semi-autos
Love semi-auto but my 5 shot S&W fits nicely on my ankle when real concealment is needed!

Re: Revolvers and Semi-autos
I started off with revolvers and over the last couple years moved over to semi autos. There are just so many more choices and options available with the semi's.
Re: Revolvers and Semi-autos
Open carrying a small revolver does'nt scare the britches off of people as you walk by them in a store.
Do that with a shiny stainless steel 45 auto and they can see you and the gun a mile away.
Although I have a parkerized P95 Ruger I have thought about putting into open carry rotation.
Really though, all I need is the little Ultralight.
I just want to be able to respond to a criminals threat if need be.
Not spray fifteen bullets downrange.
But open carrying my P95 is definitely appealing.

Re: Revolvers and Semi-autos
i've never had a S&W revolver jam, ever. the same can't be said for glock, sig, springfield, what some regard as the best semiautos on the market. when its gotta go bang, its wheelgun for me. i know a revolver can jam, but i've experienced a whole lot of semiautos jamming (both new and old) but i've never had a revolver jam. in my personal opinion, reliability is much more important than capacity and the reliability of revolvers have been stellar in my own experiences. some may debate the low capacity of a revolver, but there's always a backup gun.

semi auto for me.
I prefer a combat pistol for HD and for carry. Nothing against a wheel gun, but I prefer the accuracy and pointability of my autos. revolvers just don't shoot right for me.

Re: Revolvers and Semi-autos
I always carried a semi-auto, and I doubt that I would want a revolver as a primary weapon. However, I wouldn't mind having a small .38, like a S&W 442 Airweight, as backup on my ankle.
As far as capacity, my XD-framed FN FNP-45 (15+1) is hard to beat. But, it's also hard to conceal. For now, I'll stick with my 7+1 Kimber 1911 for CC

Wheelguns for cc. S&W J-frames for me in a pocket holster. Alternate between a 36, 637 & 642.
