Glock 19: Gen4/Gen3 hybrid

Second day at the range, I was traumatized when the Gen4 dual recoil spring assembly locked up, preventing the slide from going back.
Glock support said they never heard of such thing, didn't have any springs in stock, and promised to send me a new one when they come in. It's been over 3 weeks now. No problem, though. I anticipated Glock would take forever or forget me, so I came up with an immediate solution below:

Fit an aftermarket Gen3 stainless steel captive guide rod from a place called BrassStackers (great products). Fired 1,000 rounds ever since, works great! In fact, better... I noticed when I shot with the factory Gen4 recoil assembly, shells would extract straight to my forehead for some reason. After using the Gen3 guide rod, shells fly clear over my head. I feel no difference in recoil, either.

So you have an aftermarket Gen3 guide rod with the original Gen4 spring?. Did you pass this on to Glock support?. I'd be curious to know what they have to say.

No, that would not work. The Gen4 spring assembly is an entire new thing; made up with multiple springs. The Gen3 thing I got is a captive assembly (rod+recoil spring). I did, however, ask Glock support if it's okay to use (while I wait for the replacement they are sending me), and he said "yes" as long I use the factory spring weight.

I started off with that. I think it's made of anodized aluminum. But after 250 rounds, the steel spring really dented it up. It probably would've been no problem, but I brought this to the attention of the company who I bought the guide rod from (BrassStackers), and what do they do? They send their version of the 'reducing ring' for free and tell me to see how that works. Their ring is made of steel and holding up well.
GlockWorx (same company as the link above) said they'll send me a replacement...been over a week; still haven't seen it.

That's good to hear YuDanJa -- not surprised to hear steel works better in this application. What's BrassStackers Web address? The only Brass Stacker I'm familiar with is a magazine loader.

Its funny you ask. I was curious about more of their products, too, and asked the guy I've been in touch with today. If I understand correctly, (1) their mag loader is so popular, they are completely out of stock and currently in production (new hardcoat anodized), which is why brassstackers.com is closed; (2) their main company is actually TGR Enterprises (http://www.tgrenterprises.com), and they work through distributors (Brownells, Glockparts.com, and The Country Shed); (3) you can find Brass Stackers branded items on eBay once in a while. That's where I found my parts.

However, as to their magazine loader, I think the UpLula loader is a much better product and I suspect that it has pretty much knocked theirs and all the other mag loaders out of the market.
Anyone who shoots a pistol a lot should have an UpLula loader -- one the best accessories ever made.

I've heard nothing but great things about the UpLula and its popularity; but, I have never seen anyone use it before. Most people I see at the range just use their factory speed loader or thumb. I use an HKS...bought it before I've heard of UpLula; still does the job, so I can't ever come around to trying out a "LuLa".

You will see a lot of them at pistol competition matches. Also, not long ago, I attended one of those high-round-count pistol training events. Loading 600 rounds in a day was no effort with the UpLula.

No problem at all.
When it comes time to change the recoil spring, I'm going to try out the Gen3 style captive guide rod actually made to fit the Gen4. Right now Glockmeister sells them, but if Brass Stackers (TGR Enterprises) starts producing them, I'll buy from them. The guy at TGR is too cool. And probably because they're in NC, their packages get here in 2 days.

I have a Glockmeister Model 19 Gen 4 captive recoil assembly. I've not yet installed it or tested it . I bought it as a backup when I could not find a Glock Gen 4 recoil assembly for a spare. I'll give it a try next time I get a chance and let you know how it works out. I've over 3,000 rounds through my Glock 19 Gen 4 now with zero malfunctions.

Uh huh. Glocks knows there are issues with the new recoil spring system, and that's probably why it was out of stock.
