I just heard on the news that our new president is going to appoint an internet czar, or cyber czar as they called it. He is supposed to have broad and sweeping power to control internet security.
I don't like the sound of that. I got rained out today so I had to quit working early, now my blood pressure is up. I'm better off not watching the news.

Of course they're moving fast. They have over two hundred years of freedom to obliterate, and only three years to do it. If someone had told you twenty years ago that in 2009 we would be this far down the road to full blown socialism, you'd have said they were insane. Well... we're on a runaway train to crazy town, folks

I know your right Jay.

Wasn't there some talk about taxing internet use or something? I don't mean the $xx.xx every month either.
If I can find more on what I mean, I'll post it.

Not to hijack the thread, but did anyone watch Craig T Nelson (Coach) on Glenn Beck?.

Re: Cyber Czar
In reality we already get taxed to use the net. Virtually everybody pays fed, state, and local tax on their phone or cable bill. Some sites also charge a sales tax when you order online depending on where you live. As for Obama shutting down the net I dont think that is likely since its a primary means for him to communicate with supporters and solicit donations. The Internet is so vast and the backbone is comprised of so many different companies that any attempt to shut it down would require first gaining control of the backbone companies and/or those providing services to end users (phone, cable, satellite). IMO it would be a tough thing to do. Some of us view shutting down the net as an attack on free speech but the end result would also be shutting down electronic commerce. Think about that impact. Almost everything we do business related is conducted electronically via the Internet. I think this is essentially a measure that will be kept in his hip pocket and used as a a final line of defense to preserve his political control on America.wbtrunx wrote:Wasn't there some talk about taxing internet use or something? Here's a couple of links discussing the Internet tax:

And an article where the block to extend the moratorium on an Internet tax was overwhelmingly approved earlier in May 2009:
