Hunting and Open Carry

Post by allingeneral »

Having a discussion on another forum about hunting and carrying a sidearm. The VDGIF website indicates that carrying of a concealed handgun by permit holders is allowed, but says nothing about Open Carry for someone who does not have a CHP.

http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/re ... #legal-use

Does anyone know of any law or regulation which restricts non-CHP holders from open carrying a pistol while hunting?

You can open carry during firearms season where rifles are permited. Conceal carry during bow and muzzleloading season or during firearm season where you can only use shotguns. That came straight from a Possum Cop.

Yep and since he would be the one writting the ticket if I screw up. I'll take his word for it.
It's also in the hunting regs, no pictures but if you can add two and two it's easy to figure out.

You can cover your hunting handgun in inclement weather. You can't open carry and have a shotgun/rifle with you in the field. CC in the field is okay as of two years ago.
