Finally A Va. Gobbler

Post by Bob »

After all these weeks of hunting I finally got a gobbler in Virginia. After hunting all over the place I got one in my own creek bottom.

He was 19 lbs, 8.5" beard, and 1.5 + spurs, big spurs for a bird this size.

Vahunter this bird had a funny beard half of it was 8.5" the front half, the back half was 4" it looked like some body cut it off with a pair of sicissors. I never saw that before, my friend looked at it and said he saw them worn off that way before. I've been turkey hunting a long time and killed a lot of birds and this doesn't make sense to me. The front should get worn first, what do you think.

Nice bird  Maybe he got his beard groomed for the ladies. :hysterical: Iv'e been in Asland for the past couple of days for a training program  , I'm gonna try to use one or two more tags Friday and Saturday. It's possible he damaged it in a fight, I didn't think of that. I've seen them fight and they really go at it. This was a new one for me, I killed them with double beards and heard of triple beards but never killed one. A fight could be the answer.

I didn't hunt today, I'm taking it easy but I will get out again tomorrow, I still have one more tag and three days to get another one.

I did get my sweet corn planted (about two weeks late) and got my small field mowed for the first time this year. You can get a lot done when your not wasting all your time out in the woods hunting.

Hey Jay you busting on the old guy, I'm old and slow but I'm persistant.

There was a country song that said, "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was." I don't remember who wrote that. I like both kinds of music Country and Western. :hysterical:

Yeah, I had to bust on you little. But I knew you'd get one if you had to start living in the hunting blind to do it. No comment on the country music

No luck so far today, we had some heavy rain last night and right before sun up, it's beautiful out now. I'll try again this evening if the weather holds.

It didn't stop raining here until after 7:00 this morning. But that didn't stop me from heading on out while a thunder storm was going on. No luck either except I didn't get struck by lightning.
