Illegal Immigrants' Cost to Government Studied

A report that found that illegal immigrants in the United States cost the federal government more than $10 billion a year -- a sum it estimated would almost triple if they were given amnesty -- has drawn criticism from immigration advocacy groups.

For its report, the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington-based group that advocates tougher immigration policies, used Census Bureau figures to compare the revenue that illegal immigrants contribute through taxes with the cost of government services they use.

"Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household," said Steven A. Camarota, author of the study.

Now imagine additionally what the states have to contribute to this and it is very plaiin and simple why AZ and other states need to do the Feds job and say screw the PC and the politics. Get out and stay out!! We have to make illegal just that ILLEGAL and enforce /create laws that govern it. THe Fed looking the other way makes it way too easy and tempting to just cross over illegaly and hold their hands out for that liberal feel good give away stuff that is suffocating and breaking the states ,

Gabriella - you are an heroic AMERICAN:

Simply outstanding! You express very eloquently - in your second language, no less - what I suspect many of us feel. Thank you.

Judges like this one certainly don't help with the cost...

Federal Judge Awards Illegal Immigrant $145G Over Civil Rights Violation
An illegal immigrant with a long rap sheet got a $145,000 parting gift from New York City taxpayers before he was deported, after a federal judge ruled his civil rights had been violated when he was held too long on Rikers Island.

Federal rules allow local law enforcement to detain suspected illegal immigrants for 48 hours after their criminal cases are resolved, to give Immigration and Customs Enforcement a chance to pick them up and move them to federal facilities.

Former Brooklyn resident Cecil Harvey, 55 -- backed by an immigration-rights advocacy group -- argued that his rights were violated when he spent more than a month in a Rikers holding pen before being transferred to ICE.

Harvey was shipped to his native Barbados in October 2007; the city settled his civil suit late last year.

The landmark settlement has prompted the Correction Department to dump scores of illegal immigrants on the streets, since federal officials often fail to pick them up within the required two-day window.

Federal immigration agents have office space on Rikers Island, and the city allows them to interview roughly 4,000 inmates each year. They put a hold, or "detainer," on 3,200 of those inmates who they discover are illegals.

The city leaders of Tuscon are pathetic excuses...once again we see action by so called leaders against the will of the people...and a judge in NY awarding money to an illegal...GMAB...

I honestly have to ask myself...why do I try so hard to be a law-abiding citizen when blatant law breakers are rewarded...

WHERE IS MY REWARD FOR FOLLOWING YOUR DUMB STUPID LAWS............

Indeed it is a travesty that things like this are done by liberal interpretations of the law by jackasses of the court. Shows that education isn't crap compared to common sense. Sad to say but our law needs to start reflecting the word CITIZEN only in more cases daily. Just occupying space shouldn't be cause to take out a checkbook for one who feels violated and his ACLU dipship lawyer molds a liberal leaning sympathetic jury into jello with the stories of abuse and mistreatment at the hands of the eveil government folks whose only fault is actually trying to enforce the law.
