Can anyone at a U.S. Naval facility confirm this?

I'm not surprised that this would occur. Most major companies even AOL, Cisco, and many, many others have both Active intrusion prevention and intrusion detection methods that will automatically close down potential breaches of security. Just google IPS or IPD and you will see what I am talking about. Cisco actually makes servers that are dedicated to just this one task. Although there is numerous software packages out there that will do the same thing just not necessarily going to be as fast or able to handle the volume that a dedicated machine could handle.

Now remember that every day there are thousands if not millions of attacks on major networks such as the DOD. Some people do it just to see if they can and others actually have malicious intentions such as stealing corporate/government secrets or just causing major havoc on the network such as a denial of service. The tighter you have to secure your network to prevent these intrusions the more likely the legitimate traffic will be caught as well. It is a balancing act that is close to impossible to actually do and most internet security engineers will error on the side of caution of making the network slightly more secure than it needs to be rather than risk loosing data aka their jobs. Most of the time making a call to the IT dept saying that a legitimate site is being blocked can clear it up relatively quickly. Because all the engineer has to do most of the time is hop on their hardware or software Intrusion solution and clear out the block on that site. Remember machines only do what you tell them to do and sometimes they interpret your instructions in ways that you don't plan. Ask any computer programmer out if they have ever had an issue where this has happened to them and they will relate to you stories of this happening multiple times. If they tell you otherwise they either are lying or have not been a programmer longer than a couple weeks.

Now having said all that. There is always the possibility that someone got mad at Fox news and decided to block access to their site. I doubt we will ever hear it admitted if that is what did indeed occur. But in my past experience usually it is a case of the software/hardware was a little too aggressive and caused the issue.

While DOD is on one big network - the GIG - it is highly segmented and controlled by multiple entities at different points. For example, the Pentagon network is Army controlled and actually its an Army network. This could be a local issue or it could be someone at Navy has decided to block Fox. Who knows...unless you can have several different Naval installations who are on network segments controlled by the Navy its hard to tell...not all Navy or MC installations are nessecarilly using networks controlled by the Navy...

I don't "wonder" at all. Obama's administration has declared war on foxnews/fox channel. Couple that with the age old tradition of using our military as guinea pigs and you can see this was merely a testing issue.

They are preparing to regulate information on a grander scale than they do now. They have lost control of the american population as evidenced by the TEA PARTY movement. The TPM has been informed mainly by the internet. Even Bill Clinton is engaged in this and has stated that the internet and "certain " news entities are to "blame" for the anti-government movement known as the Tea Party.

"I'm glad they're fighting over health care and everything else. Let them have at it. But I think that all you have to do is read the paper every day to see how many people there are who are deeply, deeply troubled," he said.

Well networks are a funny thing especially in the military. Fox could have been unavailable for several reasons and we dont have all the facts. A big question is was Fox unavailable from all Navy locations or was the incident isolated.

The military network is highly segmented and has several layers of control. I know...

Not that I'm trying to come to the rescue of this administration or anything...
